The Meadows

The meadows, green pillows of rolling grass canvassing the forbidden landscape, purple pettals scattered along the dirt track on which the young female galloped on, deep crimson hair flowing behind her as a silk curtain on a summers day would. Feet stomping against the drought ridden dirt, rushing to get to her destination before sun down, shades of blue and pink painting the sky, the large amber star falling behind the covers of the beginning night.

Heavy pants escaping her plump pink tinged lips, hands resting on her mud covered knees before she began to tread carefully into the old brick home she'd known as home. The warm scent of fresh linen sheets, and the heat of the home burning her once frozen skin. Yellow daffodils already wilting whilst sat in a glass vase upon the mahogany table, eyes peering around for any sign of her mother to which she found none "Already working?" the young woman questioned in her head to obviously no response. A soft sigh leaving her mouth as she pursed her lips and trod up the stairs to her own cozy room; large south facing windows capturing the beginning of the night like a painting in its frame, double oak bed shrouded with clean cotton bed sheets, throw pillows and woolen blankets, desk just opposite with a large horizontal mirror above. The walls covered with shelves filled with green plants contrasting against the tan painted walls, posters of her favourite shows and bands almost covering one entire wall. Fairy lights spread around the cozy hub, a warm orange glow radiating around the room.

Spinning on her heel, stripping off her muddy clothes and walking to the bathroom, hand reaching to the knob as she turned it to the highest temperature, shivering slightly as the water splashed against her tanned skin. Crimson hair being soaked and then falling against her back, loofa scrubbing off dirt and sweat and instead replacing them with soapy, floral scented bubbles. The girl humming a song to herself as steam covered the glass of the shower, stepping out and ripping a hot towel off the towel holder and wrapping herself between it tightly whilst the warmth radiated throughout her body.

Hair finally dry, body clothed and stomach full she sprawled starfish like on the pillowy sheets of her bed, reminding her of the pillowy soft grass of her favourite meadow, lashes fluttering at the thought of once again returning to it. Her home. Her happy place. The place she felt most like herself, the most calm and collected and at peace with her thoughts. The front door opening and shutting signalling the arrival of her mother, hearing her exasperated sigh from upstairs as she passed and walked to her own bedroom. Entranced state being interrupted by a short buzz from her mobile, hand holidng it as she looked at the screen, a text message from her friend asking her to join for coffee tomorrow morn to which she replied a simple and short yes.

It wasnt long before the girl fell into a deep slumber atop her sheets, the blue light of the moon shimmering onto her face, creating a patch of light almost only for her. Head filled with dreams of mystery, adventure and fantasy, her feet running to something she couldn't identify, adrenaline coursing through her veins like gold. Heart pumping ten to the dozen as her hair lashed around her body, feeling her heavy footsteps in her head, the images of God knows what filling her thoughts as she continued running in a place with no end, no beginning.
