In a small town of the northern coast of Fiore there was an orphanage and in that orphanage were two young children who were different from the others. They were different because these two kids were mages. Steve Whyte, the requip mage and Kanade Takanashi, the ice dragon slayer were abandoned here on the same day and thus started talking to each other before any of the other kids. Over the years they became close friends looking out for each other and living together like brother and sister. Steve was tall for his age with a head of black hair and deep blue eyes that showed how vulnerable he really was while Kanade on the other hand was shorter with long white hair and bright red eyes and was the bolder of them both. Though there differences in appearance the two kids were very much alike. Apart from the fact that they were both mages they shared the same birthday, the same favourite colour and the same dark future. After both being at the orphanage three years it was their birthday and the anniversary of when they were both abandoned there. During the party both Steve and Kanade were called up the office.
Once up there they saw a man with a hard face wearing a tall black cloak and a woman wearing the same tall cloak. They were informed by Ms. Duffy the woman who ran the orphanage that these people were Mr. and Mrs. James and
“They want to adopt you both.” She told them with a smile
“Are you serious?” Steve asked
“Why of course.” The woman, Mrs. Jones replied sweetly “You two seem like little angels.”
“Well you’ll have your hands full with that one.” Ms. Duffy said indicating Kanade “But as long as Steve is there he should keep the peace.” Mrs. Jones just smiled at them both while Mr. Jones seemed incapable of smiling at all.
“So what’s with the hats is it someone’s birthday?”
“Yeah” Steve said eagerly “It’s our birthday today”
“Oh, so are you brother and sister?” Ms. Jones asked just as eagerly
“No, we just happened to have the same birthday. Isn’t that right Kanade?” But the girl didn’t answer him.
“What made you choose to adopt the two of us?” Kanade asked staring suspiciously at them.
“Um, Well for one we wanted a son and a daughter and… I don’t know there’s just something about you two.” She answered as she flashed another sweet smile
“Okay I think its time you two start packing.” Ms. Duffy told them. Steve didn’t need to be told twice he ran out of the room brimming with excitement, Kanade followed at a walk. When she reached the room she saw Steve was in his speed armor and already had both their bags full and he was about to run past her when she put up a block of ice in his way which he ran into face first.
“Ow! What was that for Kanade?”
“Don’t you find it a little weird that those two people came to get us specifically?”
“No. Look, we’re gonna have a family now, a real family we’ll be together and happy. What’s wrong?”
“It’s just that those people just don’t seem right to me.”
“Aw you’re just nervous come on get your bag and let’s go.” He gave her a wide smile. That smile of his could always calm her down.
“Fine let’s go.” She conceded smiling with him. When they got back to downstairs they saw their new Mom and Dad stand at the front door waiting on them. As he usually did when he was nervous, Steve allowed his hand to slip into Kanade’s and she held it. On their way out they saw some of the other kids waving at them and when they were outside the orphanage they saw the Jones walk up to a black car and Mr. Jones opened one of the back doors for them. When they stepped in and the car drove off Kanade immediately felt uneasy and before she could tell Steve Ms. Jones turned around wearing a gas mask.
“Sweet dreams kids.” She started laughing and a thick white gas filled the vehicle. Kanade told Steve to not breathe but it was too late he was already out cold. She held her breath for as long as she could but eventually had to take a breath and was also knocked unconscious. Before blacking out Steve’s last coherent thought was he’d finally have a family again, Kanade’s had been to punch Steve the minute she wakes up for making her go against her instincts.
