VioletI perch on the edge of my seat, eagerly waiting for Professor Rempel to reveal my fate.
"You've been assigned to work with the Grizzlies under the supervision of Christina Hamilton."
My heart flatlines.
Wait, what?
With my gaze still fixed on Professor Rempel, I blink several times in rapid succession. Inside my brain, a neon red message flashes: Unexpected detour. Recalculating route.
Several seconds pass before I snap back to reality and regain my ability to form coherent sentences.
"I'm sorry, did you say the Grizzlies?" My forehead crinkles and I immediately make an effort to neutralize my expression. Stay cool, Violet. Be professional. I swallow, choking down my panic. "But I requested the Pandas as my first choice..."
My second and third choices were the men's and women's basketball teams. The men's hockey team wasn't even on my list—for good reason.
"Since you listed the women's hockey team as your top choice, we assumed there wouldn't be an issue being placed with the men's team." Professor Rempel leans forward over her desk, studying me. Her steely grey-blue eyes pin me to the spot and I fight the urge to squirm. "Christina is excellent, as you know. Most students in the faculty would be thrilled to receive this placement."
"I'm sure," I say. "It's a great opportunity."
Or at least, it would be for anyone other than me.
She raises her eyebrows, apparently detecting my lack of sincerity. "Is there a problem?"
It's a rhetorical question, because placements are final and everyone knows that.
"No, no problem."
It's a lie. There's a huge problem. Seventy six inches of problem. Two hundred and twenty sculpted pounds of problem.
A four-letter problem.
Nash.
Author's Note: THIS SONG.
Second chance romance with a side of grumpy/sunshine, anyone? Ooh, this one is going to be angsty. If you caught my Instagram story, you might remember that Nash is going to give Chase for his money in the filthy-mouthed department.
