3rd Pov~
It was a stormy very early morning in mid may. Morgan groaned as she was awoken by the sound of Fantastic Baby by BigBang blaring in her ear. Some heathen was interrupting her precious sleep. "Who the hell is calling me at... 4: 30 in the fucking morning?!", Morgan complained as she read the caller ID.
The caller ID read "Asshat". Morgan rolled her topaz blue eyes and answered the phone. "Yes Mike, can I help you?", She sighed into the phone. "Heyy Morgan, sorry did I wake you?", the boy on the other line nearly whispered out.
Morgan sat up in her bed, her whole demeanor changed when she noticed that the boy on the other line had been crying. She could hear it in his voice. "Nah you didn't wake me, I've been up being my usual nocturnal self", she lied. "You sound like you've been crying. Are you okay?", she asked, worry laced in her tone. Mike sniffed, "I- um- yeah I've been crying. And I'm okay- ish, I guess. I've just been thinking about... stuff".
Morgan furrowed her eye brows. What could he possibly be thinking about that could make him this upset? "What have you been thinking about?", she asked gently.
Mike was sitting against the wall on the floor of his bathroom, he pulled his knees to his chest and carded his fingers through his dirty blond hair. He sighed into the phone, "I've been thinking about this girl that I've liked for a while". "Ooooh I see I see, is she single? If she is have you asked her out? ", Morgan asked. "Yeah she's single but no I haven't asked her out yet", he replied. "Then why haven't you asked her out yet?"
The boy leaned his head back against the wall, "honestly she's out of my league and I'm pretty sure she wouldn't date me any way". Morgan thought for a moment then spoke, "Who is she? Do I know her? If I know her I can talk to her for you." "Well you definitely know her, very well actually. But I'm not sure if you can talk to her in that means", he replied.
Morgan's brain blanked. It was too early in the morning for her brain to process such mind games. " What do you mean by that~", she whined. Mike smiled at Morgan's cute tone of voice, imagining her fake pout facial expression that typically comes with this voice. In a moment of sudden bravery he replied, "I mean the girl I like is you". Morgan froze and went silent.
Mike's heart speed up. Did I really just say that? What's she thinking? What's she going to say?
Morgan finally broke the anxious silence, "What? The mysterious girl you've liked for a long time is me? Bullshit". Mike's chest tightened, "No it's true. You're the girl". Morgan scoffed, "Okay, you said you liked me for a long time. How long?". "Since 8th grade", he replied shamefully. Morgan raised her eyebrows. Damn. He's liked me for 2 years. " Soo what do we do now..? ", she chuckled nervously.
Mike took a deep breath, " Morgan, would you go out with me? Like uh you know on a date.. ". Morgan shrugged, "Ehh why not, my last boyfriend was a drunken asshole. So sure I'll go on a date with you". Mike's eyes lit up, " Really?! ". The tired girl roll her eyes, " Yess really, can we hurry this up though, I'm tired ". The lovesick boy laughed, " Of course I'll pick you up on.. " He thought for a moment, " June 3rd at 7pm? ". Morgan yawned, " Sure".
"Okay okay, see you then. I'll let you sleep now, byee", Mike said while he walked out of his bathroom into his room. " Aight, bye" , Morgan replied, hanging up the call.
Morgan fell back asleep with a slight smile, Mike on the other hand fell asleep with a huge smile.
June 3rd finally arrived. It was a few hours before the actual date so both parties where in their respective homes getting ready.
Morgan had facetimed Zoee for hours all day, Zoee is her best friend and hype woman. And she needed the moral support, after all this is the first date she's been on in a while.
Morgan looked at herself in the mirror. She wore a tight black long sleve shirt tucked into a red and black plaid skirt that stopped at her mid thighs paired with demonica pumps that were a mere three and three quarter inches tall, along with nicely done heavy black eyeshadow. "Damn." ,she thought "I look good in this".
John stood with Mike in his room. The two boys stared into Mike's closet. "So what are you gonna wear on your date?", John asked turning to face his friend. Without saying a word Mike grabbed some seemingly random articles of clothing and went to the restroom. A few moments later Mike walked back into his room with a triumphint smile on his face.
John was unimpressed.
Mike wore a tatered deadpool graphic tee and old hole-y grey sweats. John crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow, "dude are you serious? You look like a virgin". Mike's smile fell, "what do you mean? I'm comfortable". John rolled his eyes, "it doesn't matter if you're comfortable. You dress to impress the lady. Morgan deserves better than your virgin looking ass, hold on". He searched through his friend's closet and pulled out a pair of nice jeans, a deep blue blazer, a white dress shirt, and a pair of dress shoes. John shoved the clothes into Mike's chest, "Wear this, and for god's sake make your hair look presentable at least". Mike did as told, after he got dressed and bid adue to his friend who was going to watch his dogs till he got back, he got into mom's 2016 Ford civic and set off to Morgan's house.
Mike pulled up to his date's house, texting her he's there. Morgan checked her phone seeing it was 7pm on the dot and Mike had arrived, she waved bye to her mom and walked out to the car parked infront of her house. Morgan waved to the boy, his heart skipping a beat when he saw her, and got into the car.
She was anxious, she didnt know why but she just didn't feel right.
The anxious girl buckled her seat belt and observed her surroundings. The 2016 Ford Civic had leather seats and smelled like artifical pine and testosterone, if testosterone had a smell, the quiet tunes of rock and roll played in the background. Mike started the car and the two set off. Through some short lived and awkward small talk Morgan found out Mike was to take her to Olive Garden then out to star gaze at the park .
The conversation had compleatly disapated when Morgan heard some very familier and almost soothing toons in the quiet rock being played. "Hey can you turn it up, I love this song", she asked. Mike smiled, "of course". Soon Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen blared through the speakers. Morgan sung along unapoligetically because for a moment she got lost in the sweet symphonies of Freddie Mercury and forgot about her anxiety and that weird nag in the back of her head.
As the song ended the pair arrived at Olive Garden. Mike stepped out first and opened Morgan's door, "ma' lady". Morgan laughed and stepped out, lacing hands with Mike as they walked into the restruant.
Dinner was a fairly smooth event. Mike ordered lasagna and Morgan ordered Mac n cheese...off the kids menu. They talked about everything and nothing. Mike was joyful and content during dinner, but Morgan found herself forcing smiles and faulting her mind for drifting but she didn't want to make Mike notice and worry.
They paid for they're food, deciding to split the bill and got back in the car. "Are you ready Morgan?". She smiled, " Yeah, of course ". They set off to the park.
Mike and Morgan had been walking around the park for nearly an hour. Her heels had long lost their feet, she opted to carry them after back pain became too much. It was peaceful and tranquil.
Neither spoke a word as they reached a moon lit picnic area. Mike broke the silence as they sat at a table, " You look beautiful ". "Huh? Oh, thanks", Morgan replied as she looked down at her attire and smiled a bit "you know you clean up very nicely too" "You're welcome, and thank you", he looked up into the night sky, the crimson flush of his cheeks lost in the night "our date was nice, we should do it ag-" . "Oh shit sorry, my mom just texted me that she needs me home", Morgan interrupted as she looked at her blank phone screen.
She knew what he was going to say. She didn't want him to say it though. That nag at the back of her mind hasn't gone away.
"Oh um okay yeah sorry, I'll take you back home", Mike stammered as he got up and rubbed the back of his neck. Morgan nodded and they headed back to his car.
The car ride back to Morgan's house was long, awkward, and suffocating. Mike's mind went off to if he had done or said something wrong. Morgan had a good time, right?
Morgan's mind kept replying what had happened just moments ago "Oh shit sorry, my mom just texted me that she needs me home" "Oh um okay yeah sorry, I'll take you back home". She knows it was rude to interrupt, she's not even sure why she did other than the situation just didn't feel right.
The two, now awkward, teens arrived at Morgan's home. Mike parked his car and walked Morgan up to her door. The two stood somberly looking eye to eye.
"I'm so sor- ", Morgan was cut off by Mike smashing his lips unto hers. She closed her eyes and kissed back. In that moment she knew exactly what that nag at the back of her mind was. That nag was an odd deja vu sensation, except there was a lingering feeling that if she went through with this relationship she'd get hurt.
Yes Morgan kissed back but the kiss was just that. A kiss. Morgan felt nothing with it. No spark. No passion. No chemistry. Nothing. Oddly she felt like she was kissing a stranger.
Morgan pulled away first, she bit her lip as she looked at the crimson faced Mike. "I can't. I- I'm sorry I can't", she blurted out. Mike froze, " I'm sorry, did I say something wrong? Did I do sorry wrong? I'll change I promise. Our next date will be better I promise".
Morgan grabbed his hands and held them tight, "No, I'm sorry, but there won't be a next time. I know this seems harsh and I'm sorry. It was absolutely nothing you did though, the date was absolutely amazing, thank you. But I don't know, this is gonna sound weird but" She sighed "but I have this feeling, this deep feeling, almost like deja vu, that if I go through with this. With us. I'll get hurt. And I've learned it's best to listen to my instincts on things like this". Morgan let go of his hands and looked down.
Mike was silent for a moment, then spoke " Can we still be friends?". Morgan thought for a moment and replied, "No, I'm sorry we can't. We both know that would get complicated. If you need me for anything of course you can still talk to me but for now let's just leave us being strangers with a memory... We'll both move on soon enough. We'll forget about this because we'll be with better people. Goodnight."
Morgan walked into her home leaving the heart broken boy in his thoughts on her lonely door step knowing that it was best for both of them if they just became strangers with a memory.Heyy 😅😅 it's been 5 million years sorry! I had a difficult time with this chapter so I'm sorry it's not the best. If there's anything you want to see in this book feel free to leave a comment 🙂 have a good day/night !
