AJ'S pov
The ringing of the school bells sends my head shooting up. I wipe the dried drool off of my cheek and pack away my books, getting ready to head to my next class. I sling my bag onto by back and look around the room, trying to spot my my long haired friend. I jump when a feel a finger poke my upper back and turn around to face the person responsible. I come face to face with a mischievous grin.
"God Noah, you know that I hate being snuck up on." I kiss my teeth and roll my eyes at the girl in front of me. She pushes her long locs behind her ears and sticks her tongue out.
"Well I wouldn't have done it if you knew how to stay awake during class. We have to do a group assignment by the way, I took the liberty of making sure we're partners. You're welcome." She says matter-of-factly. I groan at the idea of doing another project for global history, our teacher always comes up with the hardest ideas for assignments. I sling my arm over her shoulder and start walking out of class. We shuffle through the crowd of kids as we continue the route to our lockers. As we approach our lockers I pull my bag to the front of my body and slide the zipper open.
"You know that you don't have to refuse to put effort into class right? We'll be here for another 2 years so you might as well try to make something of your time here." Noah speaks up from besides me. I try to pretend that I didn't hear her and start to enter the combination into my lock. Her eyes start to burn holes into the side of my head, I sigh and finally give in.
"I know but I am on the soccer team, that means something right?" I finally look at her with a hopeful smile.
"You mean 'were', you 'were' on the soccer team until they kicked you off because your grades dropped and were no longer fitting the requirements." She stares at me blankly, waiting for a response. I look down sighing, knowing she is right. I feel a hand on my shoulder, so I look up and meet her eyes again.
"You know In hate sappy shit but.. I'm just worried about you man. You're always sleeping in your classes and you rarely turn in homework anymore. You're barely passing, that surprises me." I throw my head back and think of a response that isn't defensive. As I open my mouth to speak the bell rings signaling that we're late. We quickly retrieve our items from the lockers and slam them shut. We hurry off to the gymnasium for out next class, gym.

I wipe the sweat off of my forehead and glance behind me to see Noah a few meters behind myself, we're all doing laps in gym. She's sweating profusely with her mouth hung wide open, taking deep breathes. I turn around fully and wave my hand in her direction, encouraging her to keep going. She finally comes to a stop in front of me and drops to her knees Huffing and puffing. She looks up at me, almost glaring into my eyes. She takes a deep breath and points a shaky finger at me.
"You.. You have not right to be so good at this. What are you? Bionic?" She wheezes out. I roll my eyes and help her off the ground. She's always been the smartest out of the two of us, but not the most athletic. I'm the complete opposite, I'm faster than most others but sadly I'm not the brightest. But I'm alright with that, it doesn't bother as much as it used to. We all have our strengths and weaknesses.
"Stop being so dramatic Noah, come on get up. It's the last period and I don't want to spend another second in this damned school." I pull on her to her feet and give her two pats on the back. She nods in my direction.
"Agreed, I have this new fro yo spot I want us to go to. Also remind me to fill you in on the project." I throw her a thumbs up and walk towards the girl's locker room. We change and finally leave the school, I hope that I never see that place again. Noah takes the lead since she knows where we're going. We walk down the street and stop in front of a bus station.
"I'm sorry about earlier, I didn't mean to get in your business like that." Noah breaks the silence.
