The early morning fog rolled into her cell through the barred window like a phantom, blanketing the cobblestone floors in a ghostly manner. It brought a crisp taste to the air. The woman in the cell welcomed it, as opposed to the rank and musty smell of the prison. She was wide wake for awhile now, awaiting for that fog to come wafting through the window. She had unkempted dark hair from the months that she spent in jail that was beginning to feel greasy against her neck. It felt into layers on the tanned skin of her face and neck and feathered over her dark eyes.
She stood from her pitiful excuse of a bed and tiptoed to the doors of her cell. The guard standing at the end of the corridor was dozing off, drooling all over his gun. She grinned at the idiotic soldier. You're surely going to loose your job today.
She grabbed a small shard of glass from a broken mirror from the inside of her socks, wrapped in cloth as to not cut against her leg. She stepped onto the slab of wood chained to the wall that was her bed and stretched her hand through the window. From the lit lantern that wasn't far from her window, she reflected the light into the gloomy distance of the sea port.
Once she saw a light blink in the distance to signal the message was received, she bolted from the window and discarded the shard of glass. In the corner of her cell, she knocked on the floor for her hollowed out hole. When she found it, she moved the slab of stone over and climbed into the cavity under it. She pulled the slab back over herself and waited.
Outside the window, a small row boat silently pulled to shore. Several men with bandanas that covered their faces exited the boat and through hushes whispers, passed crates to each other up to the window. The row boat paddled away with the rest of the crew back into the port. With quick feet, they lined up the crates against the window and lead a fuse to the corner of the building. They stood behind the wall for cover and lit the fuse.
The fire hissed as it traveled down the fuse. The men plugged their ears, waiting for the explosion. The woman in the cell, who could faintly hear the fuse hiss as it approached, braced herself.
BOOM!
The wall was blown apart to its supports. Brick and stone went flying in and out of the cell. The prison rumbled from the explosion and awoke everyone inside causing a commotion.
The woman leaped from her hole after the explosion, and rushed for the window. Outside, her men awaited her and helped haul her out of the rubble. Behind them, the soldier roared at them as he struggled to open the cell with his key.
"Here you go, Captain!" A young woman with decorated braids and dark skin handed to the woman twin hand cannons and a red cloth to cover her face.
"Thank you old friend." She took them as they ran away from the scene, swiftly covering her face and tying up the bandana behind her head.
"It's good to see you again, Captain." One of the crew mates said. He had broad muscular shoulders and only a coat to cover his torso as he lacked a shirt.
"It's good to see you too, but we're not out of this yet. Where's the boat?"
The shouts from the prison got louder as escaped. The soldiers would soon deploy once they armed themselves. Men started to climb up to the watch towers in search of the escapee.
"This way captain!" One of the crew mates lead them through alleys to another side of the port. They ducked through search parties and shot at those they came across.
They found the boat on the poorer side of the port. In the middle of the bay however, the woman could see her ship The Twin Serpents anchored.
"I missed you old girl." She whispered to herself.
They loaded onto the row boat and pushed themselves off the dock. The woman leaped into the open arms of her crew with a grin and they all hollered in victory. Farther back on the port, the soldiers were too far to shoot at them with their guns, and only could watch helplessly as the woman was rowed away.
