I braided two dutch plaits on both sides of my middle parting. I slept with my hair knotted in a messy bun so it fell to my shoulders in twisted waves.
I never understood how my friends appeciated straight, flat hair. I've had straight hair for almost 17 years so now I'll do pretty much anything to give it a little more volume. Some days I decide to curl it. I got a brand new Remington curler a for Christmas. It's a wand this time. I like the way the curls are loose, they look more natural. I remember a few days ago Jonah told me that he prefers my hair curled.
I applied my usual dark lipstick, pursing my lips and ruffling my hair a few times before becoming as content as I could be. I realised it was such a typical-girl-thing to do, I see most girls doing the same into toilet mirrors or their phone cameras.
I grabbed what I needed, making sure I hadn't forgotten anything; my lanyard, my phone, my lipstick. I took one last look in the mirror before rushing down the stairs. I glanced at the clock at the end of the hallway, 7:15. I was in the living room half an hour earlier than I needed to be. Dad and Benji were still lounging around, eating breakfast and playing Clash of Clans. It's a good game, I'll give them that. The TV presented Top Gear to an occupied audience, although Dad did look up now and then to smirk whenever Jeremy Clarkson made a snarky sarcastic comment.
I sighed deeply, I had been awake since five in the morning. A typical day at the Guerra household.
