The Strange Boy named Link

Chapter 4: The Secret Link Kept

After two days Link was better. I had gone to his house to get him a change of clothes. When i arrived at the hospital the nurse tells me that he had just been given a check up. I knock and hear him call out. I open the door to see Link with his old shirt halfway on. I see his broad back facing the door. I notice light pink marks all over his body as well as a large bruise around the top half of his arm.

"Are those scars?" I ask. Link looks over his shoulder and nods. I decide not to ask about them anymore. He doesn't talk a lot and I dont think that they are a topic up for descussion.
" I brought you a change of clothes." Link pulls the shirt he had on off and takes the clothes that i brought him. I turn around while he gets dressed. I feel a tap on my shoulder. I turn around to see link smiling at me. "please don't get so sick again." Link nods and i smile at him. "are you right to leave now?" Link nods and we leave the hospital. Link follows me outside and i lead him to the car where dad was waiting for us.

"Good to see you're healthy again." Dad says. Link looks to me a little confused.

"This is my dad." I say. Understanding appears on links face and he nods to answer dad.

"alright, into the car, we'll take you back home." Dad says. Link nods and we both hop into the car. Dad starts driving to Links house.

"Epona will be happy to have you back." I say. When we arrive at Link's house Epona comes trotting from around the side of the house. As soon as she sees Link she trots over and nuzzles him. Hard enough to almost push him over. Link laughs and pets Epona's nose.

"I'll see you at school tomorrow, okay?" I ask. Link nods and waves to us before returning to petting Epona. The next day Link is at school and Liza asks how he is. Link nods to her and smiles.

"I'll take that as you're okay." she says taking her seat. Our teacher comes in and our lesson starts. soon it was time for lunch. Liza and I head off for lunch before Link. After a minute I notice Link coming over to us but some boys from our class approach him. One of them pushes Link back a little and started to get in his face. Liza follows my gaze and spots Link and the boys.

"Are they starting a fight with Link?" she asks.

"I don't know." I say. I go to stand up but just as i made up my mind to go and see what was wrong the boy getting close to Link suddenly punches him. Link falls to the ground dropping his food. I quickly run over to him.

"what are you doing!" I yell. The boy pushes me away and continues to try and beat Link up.

"There's a fight!" i hear someone yell. Teachers start to appear. One of the male teachers pulls the other boy away from Link. Another male teacher pulls Link to his feet and they drag both of them away. After a few minuets I get called into the teacher lounge.

"Did you see what happened?" I get asked.

"Link was on his way over to eat lunch with me and Liza when he approached Link and then suddenly punched him." I explain what i saw as well as i could. Our teacher rubs her temple and sighs.

"Well, Blake says Link was taunting him and Link refuses to say anything in regards to this matter."

"Link would never, he rarely talks and has no reason to taunt someone else." I say, annoyed that Blake had accused Link of something that he'd never do.

"they will both be receiving detention."

"Mrs jones, Link lives far away, if he stays after school it'll be really late before he arrives home." I say. "and he lives on his own."

"there's nothing I can do, since we cannot find out why the fight started they both need to be punished." Mrs Jones says. After class when everyone was starting to leave Link stays in his seat.

"Will you be okay getting home after this?" I ask. Link nods with a smile. His cheek was starting to bruise from when he got punched. I look out the window to see Epona standing outside the school gates. "I'll bring Epona into the school grounds so she can wait for you okay?" Link nods and I leave after giving him a small wave. I head over to Epona.

"Hey girl, Link has to stay inside for a while so come past the gate and wait for him here safely, don't let anyone else touch you okay?" Epona throws her head and neighs. When i turn around to leave Epona nudges me with her nose. I pet her nose and then leave after saying goodbye. The next day link was at school like normal. I thought that he'd be really tired concidering the time he would have arrived at home last night.
"how are you today link, not tired ?" I ask. Link shakes his head with a smile. "I would be tired if I had to go home as late as you did last night."
"used to it." link says.
"to what, going home late ?" I ask. Link nods and then looks out the window.
"rain." link says.
"rain?" I look out the window and notice some low hanging clouds they were kind of dark "do you think it's going to rain?" link nods "then you're going to get wet on your way home, I do not want you getting sick again." link gives me a reassuring smile but before I could say anything more Mrs Jones walks in and starts the lesson. During break Liza asks link what time he got home last night. Link thinks for a moment before telling us that the moon was at about one o'clock.
