It was two hours later when the target arived. My teams mission was to provide sniper and anti-vehical support for the marines capturing the HVT. I was set up in a hotel on the 5th floor on a balcony overlooking the block. My weapon of choice, a 300 win mag and a semi auto m4 as a backup. Me and my spotter are waiting for the convoy which would arive the next day, our mission was to survey the area and find any type of regular terrorist movement in the area that might lead to the HVT's location. It was an all night event so we took shifts watching the streets.
It was my shift when I noticed a lot of movement in a building, all the lights were on and I saw multiple body's moving inside. One was our target Zal-Kahleem. He had gotten word of our raid a couple hours later and was getting ready to move out to a new hideout. I knew I had to act so I woke up my spotter and we got ready to take Zal-Kahleem down.
I pulled my rifle to my shoulder and set the scope zeroing distance to 300 yards. When the target came outside my spotter said that it wasn't possible to make that shot the target was a mile away, but I knew I had to try. I turned my scope all the way up and adjusted my aim. It was like everything was in slow motion, I was one with my gun and the a second later a thunderous boom. I had pulled the trigger. It took more than a second for the bullet to get there but when it did I had hit my target right between the eyes. Zal-Kahleem was dead, my heart was pounding out of my chest, the mission was complete and I was heading home.
