Dar opened his eyes. Sun spilled through the open widows, letting a breeze and the sweet singing of birds fill his room.

Dar sat up in bed. He rubbed his eyes, and yawned, stretching his arms. His mind wandered as he scanned his bedroom. His closet was closed, his tuxedo was laid out on his dresser, along with a box the size of a walnut and a red heart shaped box of chocolates.

Dar ran his hand through his wild bed head ginger hair. Why had he set out his clothes the night before? Was he missing something?

Dar looked at the photos framed on his walls. Some were photos of when he was a kid. Some photos were of him with Prezzy, Kyle, Tyler, Ross, Shelby, and Heather. There was even a golden framed photo of the day he found the mother load, a mountain made of entirely coal that was said by many to only be a legend.

But the biggest picture in his room was hung on the farthest wall from Dar. It was a picture of him and his girlfriend, Hayley. In the photo, he had his arms around her, and was giving her a soft kiss of the cheek.

Dar's mind clicked.

Today's Valentine's Day!

Dar looked over at his bedside clock.

His eyes dilated.

It was 10 o'clock.

He had fifteen minutes.

"Dang it!" Dar yelled, and threw off his covers. He jumped out of bed, and tore off his Star Wars Darth Vader pajamas.

Dar grabbed his dress pants first. Having the first leg in, Dar jumped up and down as he tried to put his foot into the second pant hole. His foot slipped on the end of the empty pant leg and he fell to the floor. Unfazed, Dar pulled up his pants and jumped back up to his feet. He snatched his undershirt from the dresser and thrashed into it.

Dar ran to his bathroom and brushed his teeth. He combed his hair down and dabbed his face with cologne.

Dar looked down at the bathroom counter, and there lying innocently was a razor and shaving cream.

Dar stroked his goatee as he looked into his reflection in the mirror.

"Nah." He said, and ran out of his bathroom. Dar buttoned and tucked in his shirt and tied on his cyan bowtie. He slipped on his dress coat, put on his shoes, grabbed the tiny box, and the chocolates, and was out the door.

All in ten minutes.

Hayley's house was only five blocks away from where Dar lived. Her house was a warm yellow and pink color. Every window had a box of daisies hanging from it. Her garden was full of roses, lilacs, and tulips. Her house and her mowed front lawn was surrounded by a white picket fence.

Dar had stood at the front gate no less than a minute when Hayley opened the door and came out of her house. She wore a pink spaghetti strapped sun dress with her chocolate brown hair put up in a messy bun. A wash of warm wind blew the loose strands of hair around her face, with her dress dancing in the wind like a graceful ballerina.

She carried a weaved picnic basket with a checkered blanket on her arm.

Hayley was absolutely stunning.

Dar's heart leapt. Every time Dar saw her, he felt like the luckiest man in the world to know she was his.

She held his heart in the palm of her hands.

It was only until Hayley arrived to the closed gate did she say anything to Dar.

"Dar, we're going on a picnic, not a wedding. You're going to burn up in that tux."
