He was lying on his back, waiting, his tall and muscled body laid sprawled out atop the prickly ground in the middle of his backyard. His large hands were nestled behind his head as the scent of freshly cut grass enveloped him.

Not once, in all of the years that he's made this a tradition, has he ever spotted a meteor on these nights. The nights in which he was so desperate to catch sight of it. Any other night he would see at least one, maybe even two if he were lucky enough. But never this night.

He pressed out a deep breath after realizing he was holding one in, "Come on," he muttered out to the still night.

His eyes danced around the sky above him, determined to find that beautiful blazing stream of light.

As the minutes turned to hours, he knew the possibility of seeing a shooting star was fading away, "Dammit, this is the last year," he tugged at the hair between his fingers.

The night before every school year, he'd come out to wish upon a shooting star. He made this into some form of ritual throughout the years, which he probably should have given up long ago. But this was his last year, his senior year, and he was even more hell-bent on seeing the falling star. He knew he was acting like a child. That wishes like these don't come true. None of his fevered wishes ever did, but this one felt important. If he could only catch a glimpse of just one...

"I don't want to be alone anymore," he whispered out, making his wish anyway, throwing it out into the universe, he figured that there was no harm in that, "I need a friend, a true friend, one who will understand me and accept me, flaws and all..." he trailed off. Still searching the sky.

In his mind, there was still hope.

As he was lowly whispering to the stars, baring his soul into the somber night, a bright beacon of light flashed the dark expanse; it was the most vivid shooting star he had ever seen. With a wide smile, he finished his wish, eyes trailing the flaming ball of fire, "I need love."
