For once I awoke of my own free will, feeling around I was meet with a cold bed, frowning I reached over to my phone that was charging on the night stand to check the time, 3:02am.
My eyes fluttered open, I was dressed in a black silk nightdress and the stickiness between my legs were gone. The tips of of ears turned hot in embarrassment thinking of how August cleaned me up and dressed me.
The same August that was no longer here. I rolled over in bed and heard a crunch, confused I pulled out a piece of paper ripped messily from under me. I reached for my phone once more to provide me with some kinda of light.
"Piccolo, I am sorry I left without saying anything, you looked so peaceful sleeping I did not want to wake you. I received a call and had to attend to some urgent business, please forgive me. - Love August"
As I smiled at his thoughtfulness, I sat in the darkness with the note still in hand, I sighed in understanding but what somewhat disappointed, with nothing else to do but sit in the dark I realized from the growls of my stomach that I did not have dinner.
I dangled my feet off the edge of my bed, hopping into the crisp coldness of the tiles. I placed a silk robe over my nightwear as it was somewhat revealing and tied it at the waist.
Carefully, I opened my door not wanting to awake the others who slept on this floor. My bare feet gently padded the tiles as I made my way to the kitchen, once I was there I quickly pulled out some leftovers pastries from the fridge and heated them up, I made some hot chocolate and decided to retreat back to my room to have my snack.
I hummed softly to myself as I walked to the staircase however, a ray of light caught my attention, it seemed as if someone had left the lights in the lounging area on which seemed very strange to me as the maid often double checked everything before going to bed. As I approached the room I heard small giggles coming from inside telling me someone was there.
'I guess the lights were on for a reason' I said internally I turned on heels to leave but a familiar voice caught my attention, I instantly knew it was August.
Why was he here? Was he doing paperwork? I decided to find out, the smell of whiskey was strong, Was he drunk as well? I pushed the door open and what I saw made me want to sink into the earth. I felt sick, there he was on the sofa of the lounging room, head thrown back, shirt opened and kneeling in front of him zipping down his pants was my cousin, Maeve.
They hadn't noticed me standing in the door frame until my hands flew up to my mouth to stop my sobs from escaping, abandoning the plate that was once in my grasp. Like my heart, the plate shattered alerting them to me August's hand flew to his waist band where a gun was hoisted and honestly, I wish he did shoot me and put me out of my misery. After he assessed the situation and saw that it was just me his eyes grew in size and something like regret shadowed in them
"Vera..." he said with the utmost caution
"I uh I'm sorry I just saw the light was on and I"
I couldn't even form a proper sentence.
"I'll send someone to clean this up, sorry" I said again before halfway running, halfway walking up the stairs, hot tears trailing down my cheeks and clouding my vision.
How could he? The same night that he held me in his arms, I was beyond hurt, he could have at least waited a few days, before I could turn the corner to get to my room large hands grabbed my shoulder and spun me around. August stood before me hair ruffled and his shirt still open to reveal his god sculptured body.
"Bambina it's not..."
"August let me go" I pleaded to him, I really was not in the mood to hear his excuses
"Vera please, listen to me" I could hear the desperation in his voice
"Listen to you? Why should I listen to you August? The last time I listened to you, you said you had business to take care of I understand now that business was my cousin's mouth" I shouted at him my tears never stopping.
"It's not like that Vera"
"Why did you leave August? Was I not good enough for you? Did you need someone better to satisfy you?" I watched him carefully as he dragged his fingers through his hair and placed another hand on my shoulder
"Let me go August I won't ask you again"
"Vera..."
"August" I warned, he removed his hands from my shoulder and I walked passed my room I knocked on a door three rooms from mine and a messy blonde haired woman opened it.
"Iliana can I stay here tonight?" I asked softly, knowing that if I went back to my room he would find his way in, locked door or not.
She frantically pulled me in for a hug asking me a million and one questions however, the questions stopped once she looked down the hall to see August still standing there.
She let me go from the hug and opened the door wider inviting me in, I smiled sadly at her not having the energy to say anything, I crawled up into her bed under her sheets and cried. After closing the door and locking it she sat next to me pulling me into her, she said nothing understanding that sometimes that silence was the greatest comfort and I loved her for that, surely enough I fell under a deep sleep from the exhaustion that plagued my body.
