DannyI just finished a workout with James, and I have a little more pep in my step because of what we were talking about. I have a feeling today will be a good day. Earlier, we were in the weight room when James mentioned his dinner the other night with Allison.
"Hey, man, did you ask Allie out yet?" He says after finishing his rep.
"I don't know, man; I can only take so much rejection before I go crazy, I haven't really said anything to her since my last PT session with her, and I don't want to seem too creepy if I keep texting when I don't have a reason too," I say with a sigh of defeat.
I watch James chuckle as he watches me do my set, and I set the weight back down heavily. "Well, I think 4th time's a charm, bud. Just try, but please don't do it over text or call. Do it on the person; women like that shit."
I look up at him "4th time? Please try like 40th times a charm, but who's counting" I shrug as I get up from the bench so it could be his turn to do his set.
"I'm telling you, bud, just ask; I have a feeling she will say yes!" He says as he lays down on the bench to grab the weight bar.
I run my fingers through my hair in frustration. "I understand you think I have a shot, but each time it breaks me just a little when she says no, maybe she is just genuinely not interested, not that I blame her from staying away, my past, my reputation, I wouldn't believe myself either if I were in her shoes if a guy like me were to ask her for a serious relationship and but I know she is a lot more than just some dumb puck bunny," I say sighing.
James finishes his set and sits upon the bench, wiping a drop of sweat across his forehead. "Ok, first off, You aren't that guy anymore; you are different. We both know that, and plus you wanting to try dating seriously is a big step and honestly, a step I never thought I would see the day, but I'm glad I did, so go for it" patting the space beside him on the bench taking a few breaths.
"What are you terrified of, bud?" he looks at me. I take a seat next to him, head hung low, a little shocked we are having a conversation this deep; I probably sounded like a whiny teenage girl right now, but I don't care. It's how Allison makes me feel, and it kills me to think she can't even give me a chance to at least prove her wrong.
"I'm not afraid, just irritated," I lied, and he sees right through me. "Bud, I am telling you; I know you very well, and you have fear I can see it, don't be afraid. No one knows what the future holds for any of us, but maybe some good will come out of it?" he grabs his water bottle on the ground to take a sip.
"It's obvious on what you want like I said earlier I know you, you will put in the work if she means that much to you, I wouldn't even let you pursue her if I knew you wouldn't be good to her trust me her brother is cuckoo protective, but if both of you are happy it's worth dealing with him he will come around, but you need to just do it," He says looking at me with pity in his eyes.
