Chapter 37

Although this is my story, the Universe and some of the characters belong to Stephanie Meyer. I've decided to create a small Character List.

Character List

Alexandra – She is a vampire who was created several thousand years ago in Greece. She is an oracle or prophetess. Her powers are one of the few that actually work with Minstrels. She is also considered insane by most vampires for her refusal to drink blood. She drinks blood so rarely that her eyes almost are always black. She was once the Oracle of Delphi thousands of years ago.

Arvil – A Minstrel who HATES vampires because of the way he was treated as a child. Arvil helps Byn get Christopher at the beginning of the story. He also appears at the end to straighten things out for Carlisle. He is a 'Kelfling' and he has incredibly strong powers for his kind.

Bynjin – A Minstrel who is extremely kind and forgiving...much like the rest of his kind. He talks Arvil into returning Emmett's life force at the beginning of the story. He also reappears to talk privately with Carlisle. He again shows up near the end of the story.

Christopher – A Minstrel, and the son of Carlisle and Helena. Christopher makes many sacrifices to help his father, Carlisle. Carlisle becomes somewhat demented after his wife Helena is stolen....and treats a young appearing Christopher as if he were still a small child. He has the 'time-shift' power but it's flawed and Christopher doesn't age correctly.

Clara - A human black servant of the Shaws. She is from Jamaica and practices voo-doo. She immediately knows what Carlisle is the moment she meets him. She also has an idea of what he's planning to do...so she helps him retrieve Christopher. Carlisle is amazed by Clara and he develop a respect for her.

Drakuns – An ancient immortal race created by the Therans as guards and soldiers. They were supposed to have skin as hard as granite and drink the essence of their prey. The Minstrels call them their 'shadow brothers' because the two races are related although vastly different. It's believed that a few Minstrels gave birth to some Drakuns on Earth, since the races are related. The 'original' Drakuns did not spread their kind thru bites, but also went thru an estrus or fertile cycle to reproduce.

Heathcliffe – He is a HUGE vampire who is among the Volturi guard. His principle job was to guard Caius. He was eventually killed by another guard, Felix.

Helena – Helena was a Minstrel that Aro caught. Carlisle stole her away from the Volturi and eventually married her. They had one child, Christopher. She was kidnapped and returned to Volturi by the tracker called Ramero. She was later killed by Dimitri and Caius angering Carlisle for revenge. She is remarkably beautiful with dark chestnut hair, emerald green eyes, and radiantly pale skin.

Nathan Johnson - A human attorney working in the law-office of the Shaws. He's eventually killed by Carlisle.

Kelfling – Kelflings are Minstrels with extra and super-enhanced powers. Their eyes are usually violet, while the 'normal' Minstrels have green eyes.

Lecia - A Minstrel who is forced in relations with Felix thereby giving birth to Arvil/Singer. She is accidentally killed by Felix.

Linda - Carlisle's human nurse who works with him at the Forks Hospital.

Lucy - A vampire who is part of the Volturi. Her power is that she can drain ALL vital fluids from a person or vampires...leaving them a dried out husk.

Mental Barrier Wall - A mental wall that some Minstrels can project...causing people/vampires to remember the past differently. Sometimes called 'The Wall of Forgetfulness.' If the wall is to be successful, new false memories must be replaced with the old ones.

Minstrels – An ancient race of beings created by the Therans as servants. They are a kind and benevolent race. Minstrels can only give birth to other Minstrels. Minstrels sing and can produce instrumental music with their minds. Most cannot speak words. They communicate by 'sending' their thoughts to another; almost the opposite of mind-reading. They are dying out and there aren't many left. They also go thru an estrus or 'fertile' cycle about every seven years. After their sun died, they came to Earth and interbred with humans. Almost all Minstrels have green eyes, although a few have violet eyes. Their hair-color ranges from deep black to a dark chestnut brown. All Minstrel's skin is remarkably fair...almost a luminous snowy white. Minstrels also have a natural mind barrier that prevents others from reading their minds. This barrier also prevents the "gifted" vampires to affect them.

Rachel – She is a Minstrel who visits Carlisle to ask his assistance in capturing Christopher. She also appears near the end of the story to return Christopher, and explain what exactly is 'wrong' with Christopher.

Ramero – Was a vampire tracker before Demitri. He fell in love with Carlisle (although the love was never returned) and they had a short-lived relationship. Ramero resented Carlisle after he ended their affair. Ramero is the vampire who finds Carlisle and his small family living in England...and he returns Helena to Aro, thinking Carlisle would come back to him. Carlisle kills Ramero for taking Helena.

Sarah – A human peasant woman who Carlisle hires to help Helena. Carlisle eventually is forced to let her care for Christopher for a few days.

Shaws – A human family who is very selfish and greedy. Carlisle allows Christopher to live with them for a period of time. Carlisle eventually kills off the family after he is angered at how they treated Christopher.

Bernard Shaw – A human law attorney who offers to shelter and care for Christopher while Carlisle goes in search for Helena. He beats Christopher.

Hortense Shaw - The human wife of Bernard Shaw who had her fair share in torturing and beating Christopher. She is eventually killed by Carlisle.

Horace Shaw - The human son of Bernard and Hortense Shaw who also partakes in the beatings of Christopher. At one point he breaks one of Christopher's legs. He is eventually killed by Carlisle.

Cantor - A young Minstrel/Singer that Demitri catches and brings back to Aro while Carlisle is staying with the Volturi. He was bred by Aro by having the vampire Felix and the Minstrel Lesia to have relations. Singer is poorly treated by the vampires...at one point Demitri slaps him across the room while the vampires laugh. Cantor HATES vampires.

Therans – An ancient dead race that visited ancient Earth just when humans were forming. Therans are described as being reptilian, huge and lumbering...but extremely intelligent. While visiting ancient Earth, the Therans took DNA and created several slave races, two of these races include the Minstrels, and the Drakuns.

Therys – The ancient world of the Therans. Eventually all races would become extinct except for the peaceful Minstrels. The sun of Therys shone with a blue hue.

Time-Shift Power - A power that some Minstrels possess. They cannot go back or forward in time...but the power allows them to either slow time down - or make it go in fastforward within themselves. That's why a Minstrel can suddenly appear and disappear when they go into 'fast-time.'

Christopher's Lullaby - Written by Shell Silverstein, poet. Several musicians set it into musical verse.
