i would just like to say that you do not have to read this. this "chapter" is just for the people who dont know much about LGBTQ and would like to learn. also they will all be on this "chapter" so itll kinda all be together and these are all my opinions and some are actual things you NEED to listen to
the following topics will include:
‣what to do when someone comes out to you
‣different sexualities and their meanings
‣genders
‣how to know if youre LGBTQ (different for everyone)
‣how and when to come out to people (friends, family, etc)
‣pronouns and how to use them
‣other topics may be mentioned too
(go watch star wars ep III revenge of the sith its amazing but be sure to watch the ones leading up to it lols)
①what to do when someone comes out to you: even if you knew or had a theory or thought that the person was LGBTQ still act surprised and dont say things like "yeah i kinda figured" , "cool" , "okay" , "not a shocker" or anything like that. instead say things like "wow i had no idea" , "thank you for telling me even though i dont know how hard it is (just if youre straight) i can tell from others that it must be very hard" , "who should i not tell? i dont want to out you and thank you for telling me". (THESE ARE ALL JUST SOMETHINGS I WOULDVE LIKED TO HAVE HEARD)
②different sexualities and their meanings:
➼gay: when you are a man/boy or you identify as a man/boy and have a romantic and sexual attraction to men (you can still be gay if you are asexual which we will talk about later)
➼lesbian: when you are a women/girl or identify as a women/girl and have a romantic and sexual attraction to women
➼bisexual: when you have a romantic and sexual attraction to both men and women (bisexuals can/will have a preference of which gender they like more)
➼queer: sometimes when a person knows that they are for sure LGBTQ but are still confused will identify as queer, some dont like labels so they say theyre queer
➼pansexual: kinda like bisexual but pansexuals care more about your personality more than youre gender, often say they are 'genderblind'
➼demisexual: when you dont have sexual attraction as soon as you meet someone, people who are demisexual will build up a bond with the person first before they get themselves into a sexual relationship, they also do not care about genders
➼asexual: asexual is when a person feels no sexual attraction, asexuals can feel a little sexual attraction but they do not need to have sex like others do.
➼polyamoras: when you have an open relationships with multiple people
➼aromantic: when you feel no romantic attraction to any body
➼demiromantic: when you dont have an immediate romantic attraction to someone as soon as you meet them, people who are demiromantic build up bonds with someone before they get into a relationship.
keep in mind there are a BUNCH more as well i just listed those i could find or remembered
now onto genders
③different genders and their meanings
⦿agender: a person who does not identify with any gender, or intentionally doesnt follow expectations of gender
⦿non-binary: a person who does not identify as male or female but stays in between the two
⦿someone who identifies with two distinct genders, such as man/woman or woman/androgyne
⦿demiboy: someone who identifies as a demiboy experiences their gender as partly boy and partly another gender
⦿demigirl: someone who identifies as a demigirl experiences their gender as partly a girl and partly another gender
⦿genderfluid: a gender-fluid person doesn't confine themself to one gender, or even a few. Instead, they may fluctuate between presenting as feminine, masculine, neither, or both
⦿intergender: someone who experiences their gender as in between other genders, such as someone whose gender falls somewhere between being a man or a woman
⦿transgender: an umbrella term for people whose gender identity and/or gender expression differs from what is typically associated with the sex they were assigned at birth
those are also just a few and if you would like to know more the website i used is https://www.refinery29.com/en-us/lgbtq-definitions-gender-sexuality-terms
now onto how to know if youre LGBTQ
④how to know if youre LGBTQ
⁍think about yourself with the same gender and think:
➊would you date the same gender? if you answered yes than thats a hint
➋would you have sex with the same gender? if you answered yes thats also a hint
➌would you marry the same gender? if you answered yes you might need to do some research on sexualities
and really just think about stuff like that. would you be open about your relationship? would you be ashamed of it? but its different for everybody, thats how i knew.
⑤how and when to come out to friends and family
⁍when you dont know if your parents/friends support LGBQT make up a random person and tell them that theyre bi , lesbian , gay or what ever sexuality you are. so for example i would say "my friend alec told me that theyre gay today and that i could tell you" you want to watch their expressions when you tell them, if you get an answer like "tell him its completely okay with me and that i support him" or something like that, your parents most likely support LGBTQ but if you get an answer like "ew thats not normal" or anything like that then its not safe to tell them because theyre homophobic
⁍if you are in a safe area and everybody supports your made up LGBTQ friend then you can switch things up by saying "okay good cause its me, im the friend and im the gay one" or anything like that, that saying is just how i personally did it just because i was watching too much tikok lol
⑥pronouns and how to use them
◘she/her: its literally a default one i shouldnt have to explain it but i dont want anybody coming after me so- "she is a book writer and she wrote that book all by herself. those ideas are hers and hers only"
◘he/him: also a default one but im gonna do it anyways- "he is a book writer and he wrote that book all by himself. those ideas are his and his only"
◘they/them: these are my pronouns and i freaking love them- "they are a book writer and they wrote that book all by themself. those ideas are theirs and theirs only"
◘ze/hir: although i wont be using this one in my story this is a LGBTQ info page so im putting it here to educate people- "ze is a book writer and ze wrote that book all by hirself. those ideas are hirs and hirs only" some people do go by ze/zir but it would still be the same
◘no pronouns: you would use the name of someone like if their name was alyx you would say- "alyx is a book writer and wrote that book. those ideas are alyxs and alyxs only"
really just put any pronouns into that sentence
and i as i go along with this book ill add more information pages so if you guys are ever confused and have more questions you can comment them here and ill go through and edit this page and add them if they are relation to LGBTQ. if you have questions about suicide hotlines, call and text, you can ask questions here as well and ill make another page about depression and symptoms and what to do if you think you might have it
