My heart thuds in my chest as Dimitri and Alex plunge ahead into the darkening tunnel, Alex tugging my arm so hard I'm expecting it to rip out of it's socket.
"Can't you move any faster?" Alex shouts at me. I nearly fall over by how fast he's running.
"I don't know!" I yell at him.
"Well, you better because it's either that or I'm carrying you."
"Uh, I'll pass on the carrying." I say.
"Well, then hurry up!" He snaps, moving even faster. I'm surprised I haven't tripped over by now. I can't see anyone behind us when I turn my head, but there is someone.
Then a thought dawns on me. They are Phasers. People with powers. Why won't they use their powers on whoever is chasing after us? I decide to speak up, and silently beg that this thing that is following us isn't something more powerful than they are.

"Why can't you guys use all of your avatar-bending power stuff?" I ask to either of them.

"Do you know who's chasing us?" Alex quizzes me.

"No. Who? Is he someone more powerful than you guys?" I almost cringe at the thought.

"We will use our powers when it's the right time." Dimitri confirms for me.

"When is the right time?"

"Just shut up, please." Alex demands.

It is remarkable that considering the fact that we are being pursued by something that even teleporting, earth-bending, water-power people can't overcome, I still get ticked off by Alex's snarky comment. That definitely says something.

"Alex!" Dimitri calls to Alex. Alex turns, and I do as well, and gasp. I can just see the faint silhouette of a person. He looks more like a 3-D shadow based on his pitch-black color. And he's running straight towards us.

The sight of the figure sets me in a brief state of panic as I'm basically tripping over my own feet to catch up with Dimitri. I turn my head once I'm further ahead to get a look at what Alex is doing, and my eyes grow wide. He is shooting fire, FIRE, out of his hands and shooting it around the passage of the tunnel, separating us from the silhouette. Despite his obnoxious retorts and mustered arrogance, he is like a prince from a fairy tale. Not only is he probably the most good-looking person I have ever seen, but he holds this clear state of responsibility and bravery. And seeing him rally the fire from his hands onto the tunnel floor behind him and slow down and risk his life just for me, (Dimitri seems powerful enough to handle this thing on his own) makes him seem like the courageous hero from Sleeping Beauty, slaying the dragon. Or the Superman that saves the town. Especially with the fire in the background. It really brings out his muscular frame. And his eyes, they have a fire all their own, burning with almost a sort of passion. And they are such a deep blue color that--

"Aidan! Duck!"

Alex's voice shoves me out of my daze and I look up just to see a shot of pure darkness hurdling right at me. And it is at precisely that moment that I trip over my shoelace and plummet to the ground with a thud. The whirl of darkness zooms right over my head as I fall and I gasp. I stay glued to the ground while Alex catches up with me. He grabs my arms and hauls me into his arms as he takes off again. He's smart too, knowing that I am so clumsy I can barely support myself.

"Did you kill him?" I gasp, airily, still extremely shocked.

Alex shakes his head. "No. Only slowed him down."

I rest my head on his shoulder for a second in both exhaustion and fear. Like that one simple motion would take me away from this trauma.

"Dimitri! He's catching up!" Alex yells to Dimitri, who immediately skids to a halt and runs towards us. I hear all these voices, both actually voices and minds, but they all seem faded. Like from shock. I try to focus by staring at Alex's shoulder and zeroing my mind and vision back into focus. After a few seconds of recovery, I turn and see Dimitri zoom pass us and signal for Alex to do something. He nods, and before I can ask what he is doing, he slams me against the tunnel wall, pressing his body against mine to shield me. I am too shocked to react at first. I can just see over his shoulder Dimitri, standing strong, ready to face the man-person chasing us.
