ReflectionA Short Horror Story
The silky, grey gown flowed behind me as I raced towards the clearing. My chocolate locks danced in the gentle breeze, being held back by my burgundy headband. I knew the route by heart due to my past rendezvous.
I could not wait.
Excitement bubbled inside of me the nearer I got. The yellow shine of the moon lit my path as I pranced through the thick woodland.
My eyes flickered towards the trees as I departed from the green-leaved community and towards the auburn crunch.
I giggled, stumbling occasionally on discarded branches. Euphoria drove through my veins at the mere thought of my destination. I hummed into the night, being applauded by the crackle and crumble of nature beneath me, creating a symphony.
Gazing at the night sky, my joy began to collapse, and panic started to seep through the newly made cracks. Judging by the posture of the lunar, I was going to be late. My heart rate quickened; the possible consequences for my tardiness infiltrating my thoughts.
I could not be late.
I must not be late.
She specifically told me to arrive on time, I could not disappoint her - it was the special day after all. Swiftly, I quickened my pace; my lengthy attire billowing behind me. All that could be heard was the rustle of the forest and the jaggedness of my respiration. My chest heaved; a sharp pain stabbed at my lower abdomen due to the excessive and sudden physical activity.
My breath caught in my throat due to the white mist that trickled past some rocks. Cautiously, I followed the white blanket. With each step I took through the grounded clouds, a chill softly kissed my ankles. The impact of my movement caused the fog to disperse and swirl around like an energetic ribbon.
Irregularly shaped boulders and ageing gravestones penetrated the ashen rug, complimenting the curving wooden limbs that look analogous to sea serpents terrorising the inhabitants of the ocean. The orb of the night illuminated the spectral sheet resembling an angelic beacon.
A blonde glint in my peripheral vision lured my attention to it. Realisation and exhilaration advanced upon my face as I recognised it. I had arrived. Just in time. I approached the gold framed mirror. The brass curled and curved around the reflector, surrounding it fashionably. Sticky webs dustily hugged the metal border and the hidden serpents snapped under my weight as I neared the shiny surface.
It presented me. I had wavy brunette hair that cascaded down to my waist, my skin was fair which contrasted with my flushed cheeks. I had soft hazel irises that traced my features, they landed on my pearly robes that were surfing in the gentle gust. A rose blush decorated my small button nose, accompanied by a sprinkle of faint freckles.
I rippled away from view as a vermilion figure proceeded towards me within the glass. Her features began to be distinguishable from the rest of her scarlet aura. Her head was skeletal, cheekbones and jaw prominent. A set of yellowing teeth complemented the carmine palette. An entrancing bright amber glow replaced eyes and two arching and pointed black outgrowths sprouted out of her skull like horns. The rest of her was nude, no doubt. However, a frolicking flame worshipped her by her feet. She seemed unaffected by the heat of the blaze, almost like she could control the inferno.
