"Zeke quit honking the horn!" Porco yawned, two duffel bags over his shoulder. The sun was only just crowning over the horizon and Porco hoped that at least one of their neighbours hadn't been woken up yet. He was followed by the sleep deprived Pieck. She got called out last night to the hospital and didn't return until after midnight. She held onto Porco's jacket, following loosely in his footsteps, rubbing her eyes. Zeke leaned out of the passenger window and said jovially, "Let's go. We have lots of ground to cover." Porco glared at him.
The boot opened with a mechanical buzz and Porco tossed the bags inside. Zeke promised that he had a something special planned this weekend but he hadn't revealed any details. Pieck and Porco were reluctant to come along but Zeke assured them that they would be essential. They speculated events that Zeke would be keen to cross the state for. Maybe he was running an event for charity or perhaps some black-tie event that he needed an entourage for. The mystery only deepened when Porco noticed Falco sitting the back. Porco swung around to the other side of the car and sunk into his seat. "Hey Falco, I didn't know you were coming." He ruffled Falco's hair affectionately. He was also quite tired and weakly trying to swat his arm away.
Zeke leaned over and explained, "The more the merrier where we are going."
Pieck whispered from behind her wall of messy hair, "And where would that be?" Zeke tapped Colt on the shoulder, signalling him to start driving. He reached into the glove compartment and procured a collection of brightly coloured brochures.
"The Grand opening of Paradise Land!"
Pieck's expression didn't change but her irritation certainly intensified many fold. "Colt, can you turn the car around?" she said politely.
Porco curtly chimed in. "You said that this was important." Porco respected Zeke's wisdom and leadership but was bitter when he got yanked around, especially for nonsensical reasons that Zeke would emphatically cling to.
Colt looked to Zeke, whether he should turn around. Zeke passionately said, "This is important. Grand openings only happen once, and Falco really wanted to see it."
Falco felt caught between two charging rams as they stared each other down. He meekly added, "I don't really mind."
Porco accused Zeke, "I think you are the one who wants to go."
Zeke looked to the road and replied, "No. Falco came to me weeks ago, pleading to come on this trip." I don't need mention that everyone in the car identified this obvious lie immediately. Pieck placed a hand on Falco's shoulder.
"If Falco wants to go so badly, why don't you just go with him yourself?"
Zeke thought it over before confessing. "Alright, I want to go, but I still need you guys. There is this new ride, 'The Beast'. Only adults can ride it and you need four people per car. We don't want to strangers on with us, so that's why you two are coming.
Pieck frowned, she pulled her knees up and looked out the window. Porco growled at Zeke, "You could have told us."
"You may not have come that way. This way guarantees success." Zeke argued spuriously. "Plus, we get to have a 'Road Trip'. It will be fun. You will see."
There was a frosty mood within the vehicle. An aura of frustration on fatigued minds. They sat listening to the wind crashing over the car.
??? minutes down of a many hour interstate journey, Porco was certain that he was ossifying in place. The scenery wasn't particularly interesting fifteen minutes ago, and nothing had really changed. Since they were already conscripted into Zeke's road trip, he decided that he might as well try to enjoy himself. "Hey Colt can you plug in my aux cord?"
