When he was five, Kaminari's life wasn't that bad. In fact, it was pretty great. Also, his name wasn't Kaminari Denki. It was Arashigami-Agathangelos Raiden. And yes, he knew that was a long name.

His mother, Astraea Agathangelos, was a Greek immigrant to America when she was only two. Her quirk, Luminosity, meant that her skin literally shone. She absorbed natural light and then released it.

When she was 26, she hit it big in the modeling world and went to Japan. There, she met Arashigami Raijin, designer of hero support gear. He saved her life in a villain attack.

She always said he was her own, personal hero.

They both needed a hero the day their second son's quirk manifested.

April 25

"You good, man?" Kirishima asked anxiously.

"I'm fine."

"You sure?"

"Yep."

Kaminari let the silence that followed drag on. No, he was not good, he was not fine. But he couldn't tell him why, so what the hell was he supposed do? "So, hey, I'm a spy for the League of Villains and I've been ordered to murder one of the heroes in cold blood and it's making me sick"? That's go over great.

He could barely sleep without the nightmares interrupting, food sat ill on his stomach, and he'd been even more pissy than Bakugo the last few days.

Basically, he looked like shit and he felt like shit. And everybody could see it. Aizawa Sensei had even sent him to Recovery Girl. He'd been poked and prodded to the extent of his patience.

He kept up his training with Midoriya and went to bed earlier than his classmates, only to stay up all night, going through well-loved books, trying to trick himself into thinking everything was okay.

He looked down at his phone. Eight twenty-seven. He sighed and got up from the couch. "Night, guys."

"Going to bed already?" Sero asked worriedly. "Not even Bakugo's going yet."

He smiled back at him, the movement of the muscles in his face feeling strained. "Yeah, I'm just tired, you know? Midoriya doesn't go easy."

"Alright. Night, man."

He trudged slowly up to his dorm room, not eager to start the cycle of nightmares and sleeplessness. But knowing that he needed to if he was going to get any sleep.

As he got ready for bed, he noticed a slip of paper on his desk. It was that girl's phone number, from the mall. It'd been months, but...hell, he needed something.

So, he keyed in the number and shot off a text.

ey, dis is Kaminari. Uh, Chargebolt? u gave me ur nmbr a couple months ago? sz 4 txting so l8, but I was jtay.

A few minutes later, he got a text back.

Omg. I thought u frgt abt me.

Abt u? No way 😉

☺️

I was jus thinking. w2m ^ somewhere?

Sure. Where?

Dya kno the deli across the street frm East Musutafu jh?

Oh, yeah!

Sweet.

He smiled at the screen and shut his phone off. If he didn't at least try to get some sleep, he'd regret it.
