You let out a sigh as you walked into your house, closing the door behind you as your feet & legs ached underneath you. It had been your third time breaking your phone this year & at this point, you were feeling as if it was fate for you to be breaking it.
"My number wasn't going to work here, anyway." You said to yourself, tossing the cracked phone on the nearby counter before blowing air out of your mouth as a hard sigh.
Running a frustrated hand through your hair, you looked around at all the boxes that surrounded the living room in your new home. All of the furniture was there, all you & your mother needed to do was unpack but the both of you were so busy to unpack your own clothes.
You plopped down on the couch, admiring the new place you'd be calling home until you were stable enough to go back to America. Your mother always told you she would move to Seoul as a kid, she even taught you to speak korean as it was her dream to move here. It had been her dream for as long as she could remember & she was finally stable enough to move & you, unfortunately, we're dragged along here too.
It wasn't that you disliked South Korea, in fact you also fell in love with the culture just as your mother, but you knew since you first visited that you weren't for Seoul, & as the elders said to you many times, you certainly weren't wanted here.
You were used to racism back in the states but people here were rude, telling you to go back to where you came from because you weren't welcome to their homeland. It hurt you because you were really looking forward to living here & exploring further more until you were insulted by people every other time you were out in public.
It was starting to become draining & you were certain that as soon as you saved enough money, you'd go back to where you came from. It saddened you to be unwelcomed in a place you couldn't wait to get to.
Your mother, on the other hand, had very noticeable asian features whereas you didn't. You looked just like your father, who isn't at all asian, & the only thing asian about you was that you knew how to speak korean, when you aren't even korean, you were half Japanese.
"Y/N?" You heard the front door swing open which caused you to pull your eyes away from the opened curtains that gave you a great view of the empty street outside. "Come help me with the groceries!"
Sighing, you lifted up from the black leathered couch & went to help your mother with the bags she had in the car.
You wondered where she had been all this morning but didn't bother to ask since you didn't want to ruin the perfectly good mood she seemed to be in. Your mother was bipolar & a simple word could tik her off, so you kept your mouth shut & said nothing.
"You broke your phone, again?" Your mother asked in a slightly irritated tone that you were grateful for since she didn't go all crazy. "How many more phone will you go through, Y/N?"
You glanced over your shoulder at her before continuing to put the groceries into the fridge. "I dropped it while I was running to catch the bus."
"Well, I don't know how I'm going to get you a new one." She set her hand on her hips, looking at you as if you were 14 all over again.
Since you were finished, you closed the fridge door & shook your head. "I have my money saved up, don't worry about it."
"How much?" She asked as you walked past her, heading towards the living room but you slowed your pace since the conversation wasn't over.
"Enough." You said without any emotion so she wouldn't think you caught an attitude with her. She said nothing as you searched through the brown cardboard boxes, trying to find the ones that belonged to you.
"Do as you please." You heard her say but didn't respond since you found your boxes, then simply walked into your room & began unpacking.

"Thank you, have a great day." You told the woman of the cell phone store who had attended you as you were on your way out of the small store.
With a slight smile on your face, you scrolled through your new phone as you walked down the sidewalk, making your way to the bus stop.
This time, you were a few minutes ahead of bus & you got yourself a case to prevent from you destroying this phone. It was a simple clear case, but what worried you was how thin it was. You even got a screen protector & still thought it wasn't enough for your clumsy self.
You began to transfer your data from icloud, focusing on your phone rather than being aware of your surroundings to the point where you tripped over your own feet, dropping your phone.
"Damnit!" You said as you covered your mouth, hoping & praying to the universe that your phone didn't break.
You picked it up & dusted the phone off, revealing no cracks that made you sigh in relief. You knew good & well that if it broke, you'd go right back into the phone store & curse the woman out for the case being low quality, but now it was beginning to reassure you that it was going to do it's job well.
"Yah!" You heard a voice say, making you look up at the girl that seemed to be a little older than you, peeking her head out of the bus. "This is the last bus, if you're coming then you must hurry."
Shit.
You stuffed your phone into your back pocket & jogged to the bus, thanking the helpful woman before taking an empty seat in the bus.
