'How much longer?', Serulia wined.
'Oh shut up we've only been walking for an hour', Mazekeen rolled her eyes.
'Feels like 2', Serulia grumbled.
The team trudged further into the forest, Quirieth chatting to an absentminded Mazekeen about rocks and Erica threatening to kill Hubert for the 9th time for offering to carry her on her shoulders. Serulia was holding on to Austen's hand firmly as they laughed about cannon balls, Apollo was quietly following and Yuna was focused on an interesting twig she found.
After 20 minutes they reached a tall building, in need of TLC. The windows were cracked with some white substance on them, apparently birds favoured that spot. The wooden beams running along the middle were splitting, and the porch was a weird shape.
'We're not staying there are we?', remarked Quirieth, amused by the thought.
'You're sleeping outside then', said Mazekeen.
'I've slept in worse. And on worse now that you mention it', Serulia added. Austen looked at her confused.
'No one-'
'Right everyone follow me and shut up', Mazekeen insisted.
'Who the hell put you in charge?', Serulia remarked, hands on hips.
'Everyone', Mazekeen replied.
'No we didn't', Quirieth added.
'You did in my head and that's good enough for me RIGHT' she wasted no time in pushing open the door to reveal a well lit reception, surprisingly well decorated compared to the outside.
There was a sofa for guests, a couple chairs around a long table, a fluffy sheepskin rug, a fish on the wall and a fire roaring in the fireplace.
'Hello', she addressed the woman at the worn front desk, 'We'd like 4 rooms please.'
'I am not sharing', Quirieth snapped.
'We're short on money and there isn't many available so deal with it', Mazekeen replied, looking through her coin pouch. Everyone else did the same.
They paid the woman and she gave them the keys. Everyone walked upstairs to their assigned room. Austen and Serulia took room 12 (Serulia checked there was only one double bed), Mazekeen and Quirieth in 13 (much to Quirieth's dismay), Hubert and Erica in 15 (Erica still keeping up her warning) and Yuna and Apollo in 16 (Yuna still intoxicated with her twig).
Once they were all settled in they all went to dinner at the pub next to the inn. Well i say pub, more of a shack selling pasties to go, but at this point the team could've eaten anything. Once they'd got their food they went back up to their rooms to eat as it was getting dark.
'Let's all have a picnic in my room!', Serulia said excitedly, clapping her hands together.
'What's a picnic?', Erica cocked her head to the side, confused.
'It's a human tradition of bringing food to a field and eating off the floor. i read about it in training camp', she replied, beaming like she'd solved the Divinchi code.
'Sounds boring', Yuna yawned.
'Oh cmon i've never done it before', Serulia pouted.
'I'm going back to my room', Mazekeen stated, standing up.
'Not you too!', Serulia called.
Mazekeen didn't reply and walked to her room, putting the key in the lock before freezing.
'Actually we could discuss battle strategies over dinner... sure', she said, walking back to the group.
'Yay!!', Serulia cried, jumping up and down, hitting her head on the ceiling.
'This place was not made for elves', she remarked, rubbing her head.
'No shit', added Austen, walking over to their room and unlocking the door.
The team entered and Austen locked the door behind them. They all sat in a circle cross legged, except for Serulia, who's legs stuck straight out so her food was in the middle.
'So', started Hubert, after 10 minutes of silence and munching sounds, 'when do you think we'll reach it?'.
'Reach what?', Apollo asked.
'The stars', Serulia added.
'No the fucking dragon, ya know, our quest?', Hubert answered, rolling her eyes dramatically.
'More of a hobby really', Quirieth added, mouth full.
'Don't talk with your mouth full', said Austen.
'Yes mum', they grunted.
'A bloody village was burnt down and we agreed to help anyway', Austen stated.
'Much to my horror', Mazekeen remarked.
'Eat your food, it's getting dark and we need to be up early if we want to reach the dragon by sunset', Serulia pointed out.
They ate up what they had and discussed different strategies of slaying the dragon, most of them presented by Mazekeen, all of which were dismissed and they came to the conclusion they'll just swing until they hit something.
Afterward they went back to their rooms and climbed into bed. Yuna and Apollo stayed up a while to chat, Mazekeen insisted Quirieth sleep on the floor, Serulia tangling her arms around Austen, and Hubert smirking as Erica struggled to lift herself onto the bed.
