After minutes of crying, Keith pulled himself together and walked towards the karaoke room, where a few of his other friends were singing. The song had just ended, and he walked up, set the song, and grabbed the microphone.
"I thought he didn't like to sing?" one of his friends asked.
"Well, things change when you've changed a lot."
As the song started, the background looked like that from a game, and as the cue came up, he started to sing.
"Baka mitai... kodomo na no ne..."
"Holy shit, is that Baka Mitai?" a friend asked.
"Yume wo... o-tte kizu tsuite..."
"Yep." another one said.
"Uso ga... heta na kuse ni..."
"Why's the vocals weird, though?"
"Waraenai ega-o miseta..."
"It's a Japanese song, dammit!"
"'I Love You' mo, roku ni... iwanai..."
"His voice is great." said Alexandra, now fully interested.
"Kuchibeta de... hon-ma ni bukiyou..."
"I can agree with that."
"Na no ni, na no ni dou-shite,"
"It's getting closer to the chorus now."
"Sayonara wa, ieta no..."
"Let's sing together!"
And as the chorus started, everyone in the room sang,
"Dame da ne, dame yo, dame na no yo...
Anta ga, suki de... suki sugite!
Dore dake, tsuyoi osa-ke de mo,
Yugamanai... omoide ga...
Baka mitai."
Keith then collapsed, Alexandra helping him up. He dropped the microphone, and the instrumentals of the song went on with no vocalist, as every single one of his friends were busy with helping him to his feet. He was seen visibly crying, his loud shouts echoing throughout the entire room, up to the point where Dan burst into the room to find everyone consoling a single person. He then softly shut the door, and walked back behind the counter, saying, "I'm very glad I decided to leave your gang, Johnson. You fucking sucked, making a boy cry like that."
He wiped a bottle, only to find blood on it. He remembered Keith's bloody fingers from when he came into the bar that evening, and wiped it off. It wouldn't come off, however, and he said, "Johnson... You've gone too far."
He accidentally switched on the television, and the reporter said, "The elderly man who was injured by the mafia leader, Johnson, has been reported to be safe, however, he is still unconscious as of now. He is estimated to wake up in about a week. As for the two assailants, however, as for the fighters, Johnson has been reported missing, and the child, Keith, has been reported to be inside the tower. We are heading to the bar to investigate even further."
Dan turned off the television and walked in front of the elevator. As the doors opened, he said, "Sorry, television men, but we cannot allow anyone inside the bar as of now."
"But we have a report to do, sir."
"Fine. I'll give you the rundown. Johnson is dead, and Keith is having a mental breakdown. Now, see yourself out."
The elevator doors closed, and the elevator went down. Dan had pressed a button behind his back, and he said, "This button will lead you straight to the first floor. Nothing serious, just that I don't want anyone disturbing anyone here right now." He walked back behind the counter, and opened the television to see the look on their faces. Turns out, they wanted to meet the one who killed the infamous Johnson, so he decided to take matters into his own hands. He left a sign saying "be back soon" next to the cash register, and got into the elevator.
Once he arrived at the bottom, he said, "For fuck's sake, there's a lot of people here. How many times should I tell you, he is doing his own private business at the moment."
"But sir, we have a report to do."
"Save that for later, not now. Did you hear a boy crying loudly back when you were at the 10th floor?"
"Yes?"
"That is him. He didn't fall and trip over, but his mentality did. Let me tell you what happened."
"Alright. Everyone silence!"
Once the crowd stopped talking, Dan started,
"A week ago, a house explosion occurred by the district of a foreign city. The only survivor of that was Keith, out of nearly his entire family. After that, he and his paternal grandparents, the only ones remaining of the family, travelled to this city, where he expected a good life. However, in only a week's time, he was heavily wounded, and lost 2 of his friends to gangsters around the city."
"What next?"
"This. I'm done. I'm heading back up now, so DON'T YOU DARE follow me."
He emphasized the 'don't you dare' so hard his voice sounded like a lion for that moment. The elevator doors closed, and the elevator went up.
Back at the 10th floor, Alexandra was waiting for him by the bar counter. She said, "Thanks for dealing with them for Keith. Imagine the stress he'd have to go through."
"It's only my skill. Don't worry about it."
He removed the 'be back soon' sign, and poured her a glass of grape juice. She took a few sips, before saying, "Do you think he'll be alright?"
"Yeah. Things like these don't last long, unless you decide to never forget."
"Well... that's a problem."
"Why?"
"From what I know, Keith has a great memory, meaning that whatever's stuck in his head has a relatively low chance of getting out."
"Ah... then there's nothing I can do. Aside from consoling, nothing else will help him from me."
"Seems unlikely that he'll be able to cope with all this, but we'll see."
"Yeah."
Months passed, and Keith actually started to recover from the trauma. He took down a few more Karens, but they had decreased in numbers, and eventually, they stopped appearing. Soon enough, he found out about the presence of elemental abilities, his grandpa having fire and his grandma having water. Unfortunately for him, he didn't have any element, but he decided to live by it.
One single day, he was being driven to a school in the middle of the forest. His grandparents were going there to see him off, and once they got there, he got off. He looked back at his grandparents, and they said, "We hope you'll have a good time here."
They drove off, and Keith read the sign. 'Abilitia', it said. That was the name of the school. He entered, and for the next 7 months, he endured not only studies, but also pain and joy.
At the end of it was him meeting another version of himself, ushering him to get up. He remembered all the memories he made along his life, from the old country to the deaths, from the friends to the school, from the war to the losses. He stood up, his cap on his head, his blue jacket on the sides. He spread out his Godmode wings, and with a surge of power, launched himself off the platform, following his other self to whoever knows where.
Author's Note: about the song he (Keith) sang in this chapter, the romanization was copied, simply. yes, i may get copyrighted, yes, i may get sued, but i'm only pouring out my ideas and imaginations, so who's to argue with that?
