Before she opens her eyes, the first thing Azrael notices is the soft silk bed she was laying on, then the sound of beeping machines around her, followed by the distant voices of people, voices which she couldn't recognize.
Where am I?
She asks herself, willing her eyes to open but they just wouldn't. It was as if her entire body was separated from her mind.
Ever so slowly, the voices began to seem nearer to her and her body finally responds to her will, she opens her eyes.
Although her vision was blurry, she was able to almost make out the faces of the man and woman who stood near her, they were clad in white coats which seemed to match the white interior of the room.
A hospital? Why am I in a hospital? She asks herself, trying to remember the incidences that lead to this moment... No memory came up. It was as though her mind was wiped clean of the past few days.
The voice of the man nearby wafts into her ears but his words were blurry and she couldn't decipher them so she just lay there drowning in her own sea of confusion.*********
Dr Xavier looked at his nurse and then his patient and back to the document in his hand. What could be wrong with her. A day ago, a young man dropped her off in his care and charged him with the responsibility of keeping her from harm, or so he remembers. By now it was as though all memory of this young man had been burned away from his mind, he forgot everything about him except his two words: "protect her"
This was ridiculous but his years of medical training prevented him from just leaving her alone, he was determined to put her back on her feet and get answers. Who was she? Who was that guy? What happened to her?
But for now he was focused on the document he was reading. It was of all the tests they conducted on her.
"No bodily harm whatsoever. No illness, not even the slightest harmful bacteria in her system"
"Perhaps some emotional trauma?" The nurse asks.
"That is possible but not likely."
"Remind me again how she came into your care please"
He shakes his head and begins to walk outside the room "I don't wanna, I'm gonna go get lunch"
That said, he leaves and the nurse follows suit leaving Azrael alone on the bed.AZRAEL'S POV
This is the first time I've actually been to a hospital. Since we were infants, Helios and I have never even had as much as a cold and any injury we got was completely healed up a few moments later.
So as I sat upright, I wondered three things.
One; how did I get here.
Two; why am I here.
And three; why the hell do I still feel rather weakened.
Arghh to hell with it, I'm not gonna get any answers cooped up in here.
In anger I tore of the IV attached to my left wrist and summoned all my strength to get up. I wouldn't walk too far away from the bed before a very distinct and vaguely familiar voice which I couldn't recognize screams in my head.
"Stay!!"
What the fuck? As this voice tears through my mind, my legs as though they were made of jelly, give in beneath me and my entire weight comes crashing down. So I just lay there, unable to speak or do anything but wonder;
What in God's name is happening to me?
