Glancing out of the net curtains in the small box-like room at Roy's she sighed slightly and forced her eyes open with a wide yawn. Somehow things felt different but the way it was just another mundane day until she glanced at her phone and looked at her phone.
Mother's Day
She sighed slightly shaking her head to get rid of the thoughts which were plaguing her mind and at times like this she hated the fact that she couldn't go to the factory and hide away as she didnt own the place and no doubt it would spark some concern but the need to immerse herself in something which was so far from herself was needed so she found herself dressing and walking down the streets at gone five in the morning just as the sun rose.
"Oh" she frowns entering the office, narrowing her eyes at Nick
"Very early, almost a day early"
"Yeah well" she shrugs sitting at her desk, Nick narrows his eyes "There's only so much of Roy dancing around the flat clearing up the pans I can endure"
"You and me both, I had to help Sam get something for Natasha when she comes back this week" he flashes her a smile before sighing in realisation "Sorry, that wasn't needed, I'm guessing that's why you're here then?"
"What do you think?" she breathes out in exasperation "Everywhere I go it's like rubbing salt in the wound, all the posters, the advertisements on TV...so on and so forth"
"How are you?" he asks softly, she smiles slightly at his question knowing everyone liked to tread on eggshells around her
"It's hard" she nods "Especially with everything going on with Peter at the moment it makes you think about what you could have had"
"I should have known really because even when we were together you immersed yourself in this place on days like this" he smiles, she nods biting her lip "I'll shut up"
"No it's fine, it's just that I don't really talk enough about it to be comfortable talking about it if that makes sense"
"I get you" he smirks, she bites her lip "Well I have something which might cheer you up"
"Cheer me up?"
"Mhm" he grins grabbing the CD player and putting some disk in it "Your favourite"
"Lana Del Rey's Born To Die...people change Nick" Carla smirks, he just rolls his eyes knowing there was a snippet of the old Carla in her no matter how deep
"And I think you're in need of a reminder of the good times" he responds as the melodic tunes of Video Games plays out, she closes her eyes
It's you, it's you, it's all for you
Everything I do
I tell you all the time
"Sometimes in this world Carla you will be forgiven for wanting something so much" Nick states as she looks up from her papers with a small smile "I always wanted to be a parent and look what happened"
"You got what you wanted," she says quietly closing her eyes slightly to let her thoughts cloud her mind "A child, someone who will forever worship the ground you walk on and what did I get? Love for an alcoholic, not that I would change it at all but sometimes you wish for things dont you and hope that they will come true..."
"I wished to be a father and look what happened, maybe if you wish to be a mother then...you never know what might happen"
"Maybe but I think we both know I had my chance" she states before sighing and closing her eyes listening to the melodic tunes once more...
