Pokemon : Heaven and Earth edition

Chaewon never really know how to find pleasure in adventuring. She ponders on the thought every time a kid, presumably, a 10-year-old comes through the double door of the lab with eyes shining. At first, she was always asking herself as to why these kids would rather go out in the wild, finding god-knows-what rather than sit in the comfort of their home?

Chaewon had experienced those scenes for the past 12 years ever since she first stepped into her father's lab. Her work was to take care of the other pokemon, making sure they were in tip-top condition for future trainers and she somehow discovered comfort by them. She was close with most of the pokemon, except those who had just come through the door.

It was fun being by the pokemon. They were expressive and naughty at the same time. Chaewon usually goes back to her room with her cheeks all hurt from smiling and laughing. It gets a bit gloomy around the lab when one or two of them would be handed to a trainer.

Usually, there were starters. Those pokemon are given away to trainers to start their journey. Hence maybe that's why they called the starters.

Chaewon never went on an adventure or journey through Kalos. Or any other places. She had a friend, who used to tell her all about the things she had come across while traveling through Kalos, Sinnoh, and Kanto.

Chaewon wasn't an idiot to not admit that it sounded amazing. To go on an adventure. A journey through the regions. She wonders how many more things and pokemon she can come across.

But all those stories she heard will always have the quote on quote, “ to become the best ” or “ to be the champion. ”

So she wondered if the journey through the region, a walk through their life, solely depends on that quotes.

Chaewon first saw a battle at the Pokemon League when her sister, who is a battle maniac, dragged her along. She remembered standing through the long lines of people in the hope to get into the stadium and quickly obtain a seat before the first battle starts.

Chaewon had always frowned at the thought of pokemon battling. What was the pleasure in that? There's no way a pokemon would desire a battle that was forced onto them by the trainers. Not that she's dissing trainers or what but she didn't know better at that time.

Imagine how she was blown away by the first pokemon battle that she witnessed in all her life. The clashing of powers against one another, the shouts of the trainers guiding their pokemon through the battle and the adrenaline from just watching afar makes Chaewon flinched in her seat.

The smiles of a trainer when the pokemon stands as the last man and the frown of the loss the other experienced had only ignited another flame in their eyes and heart, a desire to grow even stronger tomorrow. And it eventually ignites a fire Chaewon never felt.

Her mother had always asked her whether she was interested in going out on a journey through Kalos. Albeit her mother also used to be a pokemon trainer. Though she only smiles whenever Chaewon would play with pokemon in the yard behind the lab.

Mrs. Park never forgot the thrill of going out in the plain field under the blue sky, going through a forest in the hope to find a way out before night falls or the thrill of hiking up a mountain before being greeted by the best scenery in the world could hold.

Her hope for her second daughter to one day take a step towards the outside world for a journey never left her. Even after Chaewon had reached the age of 17, she kept on to that hold. She knows the little girl has the talent. It's just waiting to bloom.

Yet she still couldn't hold in her surprise when Chaewon asked if she was okay if she goes on a journey through Kalos.

“ Mom? you okay? ” her questions snapped her out of it, seeing the blonde in front wearing a concerned face. She smiled, “ No, nothing particular. I'm just a bit surprised. ”

“ Is it not okay? ”

She processed her words before beaming a smile and shaking her head. “ No. It's okay for you to go. honestly, that's what I was hoping for. ” she placed the plate on the table and moved to ruffled the blonde's hair.

“ I figure it's not good for you to stay here forever. You're growing up after all. I'm sure you would find a lot of things out there if you go on a journey. ” she smiled, hand gently placed on her head. Chaewon looks up at her, a small smile on her face.

“ Thank you. but who would take care of the pokemon if I'm not here? ” a frown replaced the smile on her small face.

“ Your brother is finishing his academy in few weeks. he'll probably be back by next month. you don't have to worry. I'll make sure he'll do them all. ” she gives out a thumbs up and a sinister smile as Chaewon giggles. The blonde leaned into her mother's touch, the older woman sighing in content.

“ But what makes you change your mind? if you want to tell me that is? ”

Chaewon stops to stare at the hem of the apron her mom wore before an airy laugh left her. “ Guess I had some kind of awakening? is that what it is? ” she inquired, head tilted to the side in curiosity. Her mother only let out a hearty laugh before ruffling her hair gently.

“ I'm glad you finally decided to go on a journey. I know you will pick anything faster than anyone along the way but if you need any help, your dad and I are here to help. ” she rubs the blonde's hair who whined at the gesture. The daughter pouted with a playful glare before joining on the smile her mother hold.

“ I'll be sure to ask. ”

“ You want to go on a journey? ” her father asked with broadened eyes, his hands were paused from clicking the buttons on the small remote he holds. Chaewon scratch her ears and nod, a red tint spread across her face. When her father no longer speaks, Chaewon becomes alarmed that she probably needs to explain to him the sudden decision.

“ W-Well, I guess I got interested in the outside world I've never gone to and I'm already 17 which means I missed a lot on what kids my age would've been doing so I thought it wouldn't be a bad idea... ” her words trailed as she wore a crooked smile, eyes averted else were to avoid the blank expression her father holds.

“ If it's not okay, that's fine...” her voice grew smaller with each word, the anxiety building upon her when all she could hear was her father's calm breathing.

“ That's fine actually! I figured you would get stuck by just living in here your whole life but I didn't want to force the idea of going out on you. If going on a journey is what my daughter wants then it's up to me, her dad to ensure she's good to go! ” his chest puffed in pride, and Chaewon laughs at his antics. Her father had always been the enthusiastic one, a bit opposite to her calmer mother.

“ Thanks, dad. I honestly thought you guys wouldn't like me going out, ” she confessed, ashamed to face him after saying her thoughts. Yet, her father gives a smile and pats her head. “ Everyone has doubts about new things they're trying. but you don't know what's gonna happen if you don't try. ” he pinched her cheeks and she whined.

“ You can do anything that fits you as long as it doesn't harm you or anyone around you. ” he smiled sheepishly, setting down the remote in his hand back on the table behind him. He clasped his hands together, a determined look on his face. A look that Chaewon only sees whenever her father engages in his works.

“ Well, if you're going on a journey far away from us, then I'm gonna beat everything I know into your head so you better be prepared to remember every. single. thing. ” her father gives a sinister smile and his face darkened, a similar feature her mother does sometimes. It never failed to make Chaewon shivers yet she couldn't hold her smile back.
