Helix looked at her. Maya. She was in her sweater, her hands cupping her mouth. Even from a distance. he could see her eyes glistening. She started walking towards him, her pace quickening with each step. He spread his arms out, wide, and they slammed into each other, him wrapping his arms around Maya's waist, while she wrapped hers around his neck.
He lifted her off the ground and spun her. She was there, right next to him. His Maya. He stroked her hair and put her down while she sobbed, her head on his shoulder. "Hey, Maya," he whispered "I'm right here, it's okay." She straightened at that and wiped her tears with her shirt sleeve, before she attacked him, hitting him on his shoulder with her hands. "You just j-jumped off and I-I..." she gave up, realizing that hitting him didn't really do anything.
Helix smiled at her and opened his mouth, when he was interrupted by "Helix!"
It was Simon, racing down the hill and smothering Helix into a manly hug. Penny followed, at a much slower pace, with a sly grin on her face. She came to stand beside Maya, the latter dropping her arm on her little sister's shoulders and kissing the top of her head.
"Did you find him?" Simon asked Helix.
"Maybe we should let him in first, Simon." Maya said. Helix winked at Simon and put his arm around Simon's shoulder. Simon mimicked the action and started chattering excitedly. Maya was talking to Penny her shoulder touching Helix's. Penny's face was animated as she talked about her adventure and the new friends she found in Tamarind.
Helix slipped his hand into Maya's and felt her tense. She immediately relaxed, though, clasping his hand back. He smiled and they all walked back to the house.
