I wasn't allowed to leave the house. Mother never let me. I never understood why. She would just tell me that I am not healthy enough, but I am healthy. I can jump, run, flip, do the splits. Even after demonstrating this to her, she still will not let me go. She allows me to admire the outside world without letting me touch a hint of fresh air. Mother is a well known architect and built me a greenhouse as my room. I could only have a few plants due to the windows being permanently shut.
Some bioluminescent flowers, succulents, dwarf palms, and ferns. The bioluminescent flowers were my source of light in the dark. The birds would perch on the outside of my window watching the glowing plants. I had befriended a crow. He likes gathering little trinkets from the outside world and bringing them to me. He brought me a little glass container once. It was beautiful, it had little bird charms in it. It was like they would fly out if I were to open the bottle. They were free. I wanted to be free too. I had decided that I would finally leave my glass prison.
Mother once again left for work, locking the door and hiding the key. I waited around 10 minutes just to make sure she had not forgotten anything. My bare feet touch the ice cold floor and my white dress flows down with my movement. I go in pursuit of the key. Mothers cat followed me around with curiosity in its eyes. I found a spot towards the back of the fridge with the key hiding. I snatched the small item and the sounds of my feet pitter pattering across the floor is the only sound to be heard. The cats paw steps lightly behind me.
I reached the big door hesitating slightly, but with confidence inserting the small key. I open the door and different aromas filled my senses, the warm air brushing my hair back, and the luscious, soft, green grass beneath my feet. Nothing was holding me back anymore. So I took off. I took off running for who knows how long but the stars were my guide and light as well as the lightning bugs following me. I stopped in a field of red spider lilies and laid to catch my breath. The crow by my side lightly nudging my left cheek.
I felt incredibly tired and slowly started to close my eyes, my breathing becoming unsteady. I smiled to myself letting the darkness consume me and never opening my eyes again...
