Master Druid finally stood from his big chair and picked Lucie up from the dirt road.

She had been sitting there half the night waiting for her fathers silhouette to appear on the horizon, come running to her and hug her, tell her he changed his mind about leaving.

He didn't come.

Master Druid sat her on the sofa and handed her a bowl of porridge. Lucie stared at it blankly.

He didn't come back.

Master Druid even tried spoon-feeding her but her mouth stayed clamped shut.

He left her.

Master Druid finally gave up trying to get her to eat and brought her to a soft bed. he pulled the sheet over her and turned out the oil lamp.

He's not coming back.

Lucie began feeling the tears staining her cheeks again. She felt the coolness of his absence.

He left her like mother did...
