Luciana's POV

My god I hate mornings. I wake up at 8 am after having a restless night and decide that I need to let out some pent up energy by going on a run. I throw on some Lulu lemon running shorts from my open suitcase and a sports bra, along with a cropped muscle tee and grab my phone and AirPods. I check my dad's room and see that he's still asleep before I go outside and start my run. I turn on a pre-made Spotify playlist and decide to go on a big circle of the neighborhood. It's a gated community so I know that I can't get lost in the middle of the road. I'm about 10 minutes into my run when I see a kid about my age trying to catch up to me. He was probably 6'1 with blond hair and brown eyes. He was a boy next door type of cute and seemed overly happy to be awake in the morning. I decide to stop and see what he wants. "Damn," breath, "you," breath, "run," breath, "fast."

I let out a laugh before smiling at him and saying, "Thank you I guess. I'm new here so I thought I would check out the neighborhood."

"I know. You're actually neighbors with my friend Zach, he also just moved in so you guys are gonna be new kids together."

"Really, that's so cool," I say to him, genuinely excited to meet someone who is gonna be new to the school like me. "What grade are you guys in? I'm going into my senior year."

"No fucking way, us too! I'm actually on the football team, and Zach is trying out."

"Football player, I should've known."

"And what's that supposed to mean?"

"You know exactly what I mean," I say laughing lightly.

"You know, I don't even know your name and I can see a beautiful friendship starting here. I'm Jordan by the way."

"Hey Jordan, I'm Luciana, but you can call me anytime," I say with a wink. He lets out a laugh and I continue talking. "I'm just kidding. My friends call me Ana, my family calls me Lucy, and only those who want to be punched in the face call me Luciana."

"Feisty," he says, his eyes gleaming, "I like it. So my mom is probably going to send me over with some kind of baked good later today and I'm gonna bring Zach with me. However, we were planning on going to the beach today, wanna join? There's gonna be a bunch of kids from school there, along with some party favors," winking at party favors, "and I can pick you up. I'm supposed to be DD today because Zach was mine a couple nights ago."

"Yeah sure thanks for the invite. What time should I be ready?"

"Around noon-ish. Gimme your number and I'll call you when I'm outside."

"Ok great. You know, I think this is the start of a beautiful friendship too Jared. Hmmmmm I gotta find a nickname for you, maybe Jare Bear."

He bursts out laughing, "Pleasing anything but that."

I laugh out loud throwing my head back, "Ok Jare Bear, whatever you say. I'll see you at noon."

"See you then Ana."

I ran back home with a smile on my face. It's 8:30 and I've already made a friend and plans for the rest of the day. As I walk into the house I hear noise in the kitchen. "Hey Papa!" I yell out.

"Morning princess, how was your run?" My dad says. At 54 my dad doesn't look a day over 45. Standing at 6'0 he's relatively fit, from trying to eat healthy and working out whenever time allows him to. I get my tan skin from him, as well as my curly brown hair. My dad however has blue eyes, while mine are some kind of green-blue-brown-hazel kind of mix.

"It was good. I made a new friend and he invited me to go to the beach with him and another kid that's also new to the neighborhood. They are also both in my grade and I think they go to my school."
