My Opinion:
This book is heartbreaking, gut wrenching and terrifying. It has you on the edge of your seat without even realizing it and it is a complete and utter page-turner. It's one of the most tense, electrifying read I've ever read, especially in the dystopic genre.
Divergent is a book about choice, it's about life and sacrifice. It teaches young people how to trust themselves in what they're like and to not be scared of it. I think this is what is so great about this book, that not only is it an action-adventure packed novel but it's a teaching point for many young people about learning about themselves.
I like the part in the book when Tris is in initiation, she is so determined and driven to get through, and she's not scared about being different, being divergent. I think the film has done a good interpretation of this, despite not having the detail it does show the determination and difference in her personality to everyone else. In the book she has a really strong personality and there are parts of her in everyone, it makes her so relate-able, or at least interpretive.
Honestly, this book did make me well up, you get so attached to many characters and when something happens to one, whether it's death, pain, or even that you realize they're something that they're not it's heartbreaking. Like I said previously, it's a page turner, there was never a dull moment; there was almost always something going on, embedded or massive plot twists.
There were moments in this book that annoyed me. I found what I didn't like was the violence. I mean don't get me wrong she wrote it almost perfectly but I just don't personally feel it's appropriate to promote violence as much as she did, but apart from that it's amazing, incredible and sensitive.
I recommend this book for Dystopian lovers, those who loved the action and brutality of the Hunger Games but the heartwarming love of the characters also. Those who want, or need to learn more about themselves, it is perfect. It's a sensitive novel so be careful but I believe there's an important moral beneath it all.
Other Opinions:
Maria: The story is beautifully crafted. The pace is exhilarating; sometimes i need to go back a page or two to relive its moments, i felt i will be left behind if i can't read fast enough. The development of the characters is just right on time - not slow but not hurried, either.
Valerie: This is the touching story of a shy teenager who finds love and confidence by becoming a goth, but by the end, realizes that subculture isn't everything.
Priscilla: A fast-paced, action packed read! Escpecially the end... woah. This book definately leaves loose ends, that need to be explained. It doesn't reach Hunger Games caliber, but it's still definately a very good read!
Actual Wattpader 'SusannahLeigh': The Divergent trilogy is one of the best series I have read, they keep you hooked with massive plot twists and it has great character development. I would recommend it to anyone who loves a good ol' dystopic novel or anyone who just wants to read something different!
