enjoy! ------------------------------------------
It was about a year ago when I began to have those strange dreams. It would be the same dream night after night. It wasn't a magical, happy or thrilling dream. Actually it was quite boring. I would be lying in my bed, in the dark, when a mysterious figure would emerge from the gloom. All he did was stand there and watch me, for ages and ages. I was never scared in my dreams. I guess a small part of my consciousness knew I was dreaming. This was the same dream as what I had on February the 13th. The day before valentine.
7:00 am - "beep beep" "beep beep" the piercing sound of my alarm was the sad signal that the one day of the year that all singletons dread had begun - it was valentine's day. I dragged my half awake body out of bed and tottered down the stairs with my eyes half closed, walking into anything and everything.
"happy valentine's day hun!" said my mum tunefully as i sat down at the table
"Ditto" I grunted. I reached across for a piece of heart shape toast my mum had made. "Typical" I thought, she would do anything to remind me of this terrible day.
"Cheer up, you've got a card!" she told me with a big grin on her face. My eyes lit up and for a brief moment I kind of liked valentine's day. but then I realized. it was probably off my mum or some dork at school who was desperate. Any shred of hope I'd had rapidly turned into disappointment.
"are you going to open it?" she asked anxiously.
"Not now" I replied "I've got to get ready for school" she handed me the card looking rather disappointed.
"Promise you won't open it until you get home. I want to see your reaction!" a cheeky grin slowly spread across her face.
"ok" I sighed.
4:00pm - "I'm home!" I yelled. No reply. I threw my bag on the floor and went into the kitchen. The bright red envelope i had left on the work top immediately caught my eye. Forgetting what I had told my mum I picked it up and tore it open. Just as I did so, she entered the room
"Sarah! You promised me." she whined "so what does it say?"
I slowly looked up. My hands were trembling and my eyes were starting water up. I tried to speak but choked on my own words. This wasn't the sort of card I was expecting.
"What's wrong" she asked puzzled. i handed her the card. it read:
I am your secret valentine,
I guaranty that you'll be mine.
You have three days to decide,
Don't try to run or even hide.
If you do not choose what is right,
Then in death we shall unite
"Oh stop acting so stupid Sarah! It's obviously just someone trying to trick you." she came to this conclusion very quick. Almost too quick.
"How can you be so sure?!" I yelled in frustration. I knew her theory was plausible, but there was no evidence to confirm it.
"stop fretting." she said " I know what it's like to be a teenager, every little thing is blown way out of proportion and it seems like the world is going to end, but it's not! Trust me."
"Ok" I said, trying to calm myself down. She seemed extremely confident and sure of herself, but I could see deep in her eyes that she had her doubts, just as I did.
I sprinted up to my room, clutching the card firmly in my hand. I was just about to enter my room when I saw the shadows of footsteps in the light coming from under the door. I suddenly found myself hyperventilating and smothered my mouth trying to minimise the noise.
"do my eyes deceive me?" I thought "no no, this can't be happening" I told myself. I gulped then took a deep breath. I grasped the handle and swung open the door. My room was quiet and empty. Like a deserted battle field. A cool breeze brushed over my body giving me goose bumps. The window was wide open and the draft was causing my curtains to dance around. I scanned the room with my eyes, looking for anything that was out of place. Every thing seemed normal. Except for one thing. There was a rose on my bed. A beautiful red rose with a note attached to it, which said:
A token of my love.
I must have read the note at least ten times. The hand writing was perfectly neat, and the rose left a delightful scent. The fact that someone had snook into my room uninvited didn't even cross my mind at this point. But what did bother me, was that the rose was covered in blood.
