Becca
“Can I have a Soy Vanilla Latte, Please?”
“One Harry Styles, coming up!” the barista said in an accent only a foreigner could appreciate.
“Excuse me?” Becca asked. “A who?”
“I’m sorry. That’s what Mr. Styles usually orders when he comes in. It’s become such a popular order, so we’ve just adopted the name.”
“Harry Styles! Right! The kid from the boy band. I see…” she giggled for a bit. “My little sister is like, obsessed! Well my first English beverage is named after an English man. Seems appropriate!” Becca shot her first friendly grin overseas.
“American?”
“Yeah.”
“Wow. An American who doesn’t know who Harry Styles is off the top of her head…that’s a rarity!” He began to laugh. “Do you not listen to music or something?!”
“I listen to real music.” Becca was beginning to get defensive, if she loved anything, other than art, it was music.
“They are having a signing down the street, you know. If you’re into that sort of thing you should go get an autograph. It would make a good souvenir!”
“Like I said, I like real music. Unstimulating, poppy babble about love coming out of a seventeen year old doesn’t qualify.”
The barista, looking shocked and a bit offended handed her her latte.“Well …they are saying they’re the next Beatles, you know?”
Becca stared him straight in the eye. “I weep for mankind. Thanks for the coffee.” And with that she took a seat by a window.
Harry
“LIAM!! LET ME HAVE YOUR FIRSTBORN!!”
“Is it just me or are the fans a little TOO crazy today?” Zayn whispered to Louis with a concerned look on his face.
The boys had been on their Up All Night Tour for months and the London fans were obviously missing the boys. The roaring had been constant for the 45 minutes that the boys had been signing autographs, shaking hands and talking to emotion filled fans. They had begun to push and shove in the lines. There had already been two fights. One caused by a Zarry Shipper, the other because a girl tried to cut line.
“Maybe we just haven’t had a signing in a while, I’m sure it’s nothing to worry about.” Louis replied, but even he had to acknowledge the concern in his voice.
“Hello!” Harry greeted a fan and flashed her the famous grin. “How are you today?”
“Oh, my god! Oh, my god!” The girl in the union jack tee could not bring herself to complete a sentence. “I… I just. I came all the way from… I’m such a big…”
“Why don’t you tell me your name, love?” Harry scribbled his name on a copy of the album cover and handed it to her.
“It’s Melissa. Melissa from America! Ahhhh!!!”
“Hey Haz! I guess you got to meet your girl after all!” Liam screamed down the table with a naughty grin and a wink.
All at once it hit Harry and his face shot back at his screaming fan. The Union Jack tee!! It was her! The girl who knew the girl in the coffee shop that he wanted to know!
“Melissa!” He jumped out of his seat and reached for her shoulders. Naturally the poor girl could not contain herself. “Listen to me love, I need you to relax! I saw you today. Earlier. You were in the street! Before the signing?”
“You did! Oh, my god!”
“You were with a girl…” He leaned in real close. “Weren’t you?”
In the moment of realization that Harry was not interested in knowing her but rather her less than appealing big sister she shoved him off. Hard. “You want Becca?!”
Harry stumbled backward. In a flash an array of guards and fans jumped to Harry’s rescue. The girl in the union jack tee was pinned down and every guard on site surrounded Harry.
In that instant the fans took advantage of the situation and attacked the other four boys! A twelve year old threw herself on Zayn. A cougar looking older woman was tugging on Liam’s shirt. Then it happened. Niall got hit. Pulling his shaky hand from his metal filled mouth, they saw it. Blood.
The mob was pushing against the gates. The chanting. The screaming. It was like nothing they had ever seen. All five of the boys began to panic.
“RUN!! RUN TO THE CAR! “ Louis bellowed as he held a promotional tshirt to Niall’s wounded mouth. All 5 of their heads shot to the car, which was just down the street, by the coffee shop. With that the boys bolted.
Becca
“Thank you again!” Becca smiled at the barista. “For the coffee and helping me with my pound to dollar nonsense.”
“No problem. Good luck in school!”
Becca approached the door and turned back, “Thanks, I might need it…Do you hear something?”
“No.”
“Like screaming?”
Harry
The fans were right on them. Every time Harry looked back they were a few feet closer. The taillights of the car lit up signifying it was unlocked. They just had to make it there! Just then a fan reached for Louis’ right arm. In a moment of panic Louis ran, with all his football speed, onto the sidewalk. Harry looked at his best friend, who had clearly passed the car and decided to run after him.
“Lou!! The car! Get in the car!!” Harry screamed.
Louis’ head snapped towards Harry’s voice, losing sight of where he was going and SMACK! CRACK!
Right in front of the corner coffee shop Louis rammed, full speed, into a girl. The crack and sounds of her screams stopped everyone, including the fans, dead. All was quiet except…
“Becca!!” Harry screamed. He ran to his friend who stood in shock, and the stranger who he felt he knew who was laying on the sidewalk. He knelt down beside her.
“MY FOOT! THE BASTARD BROKE MY FUCKING FOOT!”
“Somebody call a doctor!” Zayn screamed.
Harry reached for her hand. “Becca, help is coming! Try to breathe, okay?”
Becca couldn’t help but scream at the sight. Her foot twisted out of place, caused surging pain that shot up her leg.
She pulled her hand way fiercely. “Who the hell are yo-…” She looked into his eyes, the eyes she had seen only an hour earlier. Then she noticed the rest of his face…it was plastered all over her sisters walls back home.
“You’re the guy my latte is named after…” And with that an American passed out on a London sidewalk.
