"There are winds of destiny that blow when we least expect them. Sometimes they gust with the fury of a hurricane, sometimes they barely fan one's cheek. But the winds cannot be denied, bringing as they often do a future that is impossible to ignore."
― Nicholas Sparks, Message in a Bottle
Romania, eight years ago.
"Young Master, his excellency is resting in his chambers. The doctors say that he doesn't have much longer to live." said an old man while bowing his head.
"Good riddance." said the young master while smirking.
"Do not say that, my Lord, your father has been begging us find you so he can speak to you one last time." pleaded the old man while walking behind him.
"Exactly. You wouldn't leave me alone so I had to come. Now let's get this over with." Said the haughty ten year old.
They walked down the dark hallways in silence.
The walls decorated with ancient portraits towered over them. The paintings looked ghastly because of the dim illumination of the candles on the wall. They reached an overcoming door at the end of the hallway.
The young man pushed the doors open and they slammed against the wall as he strode inside the room.
A sickly looking man was lying in his canopy bed with many women standing by his side. The room was large and dimly lit by candles.
One of the women was crouched by his side with her arm streched out to him as he sucked the blood coming from her wrist. He was a vampire, and a very powerful one.
He saw his son standing in the room and smiled meakly.
"My son, you came," spoke the man as if he was pained to talk.
The women stopped and stared at the young man who stood defiant in front of his father.
"Leave us," his voice boomed in the room.
Even though he was young, he still intimidated all who stood in his way.
The women left the injured man's side and hurriedly left the room. The old man bowed before he closed the door, leaving them alone.
A moment passed with both of them in silence. A heavy atmosphere filled the room.
"I didn't think you would come," said the man breaking the silence.
"You thought right," said the angry young man, "I didn't want to come but your annoying servants wouldn't leave me alone,"
"I'm sorry. I knew if they didn't insist you wouldn't come to see me." He coughed violently and some blood come out from his mouth.
The young man stared at his father with his slit eyes, showing no mercy towards his injured father. "My son, don't look at me with such hateful eyes,"
"Do not call me your son!" He exploded. "How dare you even request me, after everything you've done!"
"But I didn't... I didn't kill your mother,"
"What? You lie... I saw you myself, covered in her blood,"
"I lied to you, Adrian, and I'm sorry-" He coughed up more blood. "For telling you this now. Please, come closer, it is hard for me to speak.."
Adrian did not believe his father but something in his words made him doubt.
"Hurry, my son, for there is too much I have to tell you, and my time is over soon,"
Adrian slowly walked up to the bed and kneeled beside him.
"I didn't kill Regina, how could I? She was the love of my life," He looked down and smiled sadly as he said it.
"Then why? What really happened to my mother?!"
"She... Killed herself"
Adrian could not believe it. "What? That can't be true..." His precious mother, killed herself? She was always smiling, radiant. She was like the sun.
"Sadly, it is the truth,"
A tear fell down Adrian's cheek as he thought of his mother. What would make her believe suicide was the only escape? Who?
"Tell me, why did she.. Kill herself?" He could not bear to say it at loud.
"The Vodaescu..." He whispered softly.
"What?" He thought he didn't hear correctly.
"The evil Vodaescu family are the ones responsible for your mother's demise. They tricked her, made her suffer!" He yelled but induced more coughing and lowered his voice. Adrian held his hand as more blood came out from his mouth.
"I will explain everything to you, but promise me, you will help me take revenge on those evil bastards." He squeezed his sons hand.
"Yes father. I will make them all suffer. As they made my mother suffer." Said Adrian with hate filling his heart toward the Vodaescu.
"Good," He smiled. "Now I will tell you everything."
