"He said what?" Addie Jensen said as she tried to repress the need to laugh.
"Ryan said I was very callipygous, and I just smiled, not knowing if it was an insult or a compliment." Said the very irked Stela. "So, what does it mean?"
Addie finally burst into laughter but Stela gave her the look (an if you don't shut up, I'm gonna kick your ass look) and she composed herself wiping her watered eyes.
“Why didn’t you just ask him what it meant?”
“If I did, he would think I’m dumb. So is it a good thing or a bad thing?”
Callypigous meant having a large buttocks but she wasn't going to tell her that. She was having too much fun.
"Well... Depends on how you take it. It’s either a very good compliment, or an insult." She teased.
“You’re not gonna tell me what it means are you?” Stela said with her narrowed eyes.
“Nope.” Said Addie and she smiled playfully.
"I think I'm gonna go with the very good compliment version, thank you very much!"
Addie laughed as she entered her locker combination. Stela was Addie’s best friend. They met when they were little and have been inseparable ever since. If you didn’t know Stela, she would seem like a bitch but she was actually a very nice person who had an awesome sense of humor. She always made Addie laugh and she loved her to pieces.
"Oh there he is! I'm gonna go say hi to him." Stela scurried off.
"Good luck, callypigous woman."
Addie saw Stela saying hi to Ryan, this guy she was dating. He was a really nice guy and apparently, had an extensive vocabulary.
Addie finished grabbing some books and stuffed them into her brown leather shoulder bag and started walking down the busy hallway.
She spotted her ex-boyfriend, Mark opening his locker. She had broken up with him over the summer and they had not seen each other since then. It was a nasty breakup and Addie had been trying to avoid him.
She tried walking as discreet as she could on the other side of the hallway, trying very hard to go unseen. She hoped to slip by and avoid an awkward conversation with him. Luckily he was still going through his stuff.
"Ade, wait up!" Stela called out to her.
Addie cringed at the sound of her name. Mark saw her and his eyes lit up as he started walking towards her. There was no escaping this now.
"Stela why?" She whispered to her friend. "I was almost in the clear."
Stela saw the fast approaching Mark. "Oops, my bad. I'll leave you two alone." She left and left Addie with Mark.
"Hey, Addie." Said Mark. Who was flashing his best smile.
"Mark, hey." Addie said, obviously uncomfortable.
"I haven't seen you since, well you know.” There was an awkward silence. “You look great."
"Thanks." She smiled awkwardly.
"Addie,” He looked very serious now. “I still haven’t forgotten about you." He confessed.
Mark still had feelings for her.
She had hoped that if she avoided him during the summer, he would get over her and find someone else. She had felt awful for breaking up with him but she just couldn't respond to his feelings anymore. It felt wrong to be together with someone she didn’t like anymore. She felt really bad because he was such a great guy. She didn’t want to go through this again.
