I usually pass by this old looking pet shop. It's the type of pet shop that doesn't display those domesticated animals behind a glass. I think you have to go inside to see those animals.

One day, as I was about to passby there. I found an old man carrying a black cat. He went to the shop and shut down the windows and locked the door. Probably his the owner. I saw him sigh heavily.

I have a soft spot for old people. And

I felt burdened after seeing him that way. He looked sad and disappointed so I thought to myself, maybe I can make him at least smile a bit if I buy a pet from him.

I crossed the word and walked to him with a sincere smile.

"Excuse me sir. Are you perhaps the owner of this shop?" I asked.

"Yes. Do you need something?" He answered with a confused, but at the same time ,sad look in his eyes.

I nodded. His left eyebrow raised. "Do you plan to buy a pet here?" I nodded again. The old man sighed again. "You can see that shop is closed, as in completely closed forever, don't you?" Of course I can see that.

"Yes but I was hoping to buy a pet here. I've been planning to buy one." The cat meowed at me and sniffed my smell from the old man's shoulder. The cat's eyes were yellow and stared at me. It was cute and it also looked mysterious. Mysterious? Why did I say that? "I'm sorry dear but I have given all of the 5 pets in my shop. I'm almost out of money and I don't want them to rot along with me. I am getting too old anyway." The old man smiled the most saddest smile. I could feel this great sympathy building up in me. I was about to ask if I could help him with his shop but then..

"But if you really want one I can give Boris to you?"

The man offered his little friend as my pet. The cat meowed at him and leaned its head on his bearded cheek. He tenderly patted the cat and looked at me. "I want Boris to have a new best friend and playmate. And also to take care of him even before I'm gone. My daughter's family can't take care of him and my wife is as old as me already."

"But sir..." I was about to insist not to take the cat because I know this cat has a great sentimental value in his life. But the snow haired stout man just shook his head. He took the cat from his shoulder and placed it on mine. "Now , Boris. I want you to be a gentleman to this soft hearted lady. Make sure to be good to her. Make sure to introduce yourself well before you make things complicated ok my friend?" The old man scratched it's ear. "I know Boris is in safe hands, young lady. Stay with him for me." I shook his hand. "I promise I'll take good care of him." I said . He simply said a 'I know' and left.

Thank you.... Bob.

I heard this soft voice but I dont know where. And Whose Bob?

I found the cat sitting idly on my shoulder, looking at the old man's direction. It looked like it was lonely. I patted the cat as a sign of comfort.

"Let's go Boris." The cat simply looked at me. I, then carried him in my arms. Walking to Boris' new home.

* ......*

Meanwhile....

A man in his 20's went to his luxurious living room and looked out of his window with a blood colored whine in his glass fancily placed on his hand.

"Boris. Be a good gentleman to this peculiar soft hearted girl."

She's the perfect substitute for my subject.
