the mark sat just below her collar bone in messy black ink. a string of small, bold numbers and a thin border around them.

your first thought is that it's ugly. it's a dreadfully ugly tattoo, and when you take another look, you're even more sure that it can't possibly be the real thing.
there's just no way that you've waited this long for your soulmate tattoo only for it to be a stupid phone number.
