Two men in suits of the most formidable seriousness enter a grey-chalk room that interns a man holding a cigarette. As they sit within their respective sides of the bolted table, they take out a simple recording device on the surface. One of the men in suits coughs.

The man with the cigarette looks up. " Does it bother you?" The coughing man waves a hand as to not impose, but the man with the cigarettes stomps it out. Unlike the other two men, his attire resembles more of a trucker. With his hat obscuring most of his facial features besides the beard and the boots of laborious work, he stuck out the most with his bouncing leg.

One of the suits begins to record. "George Schniel, you are here on the fifteenth of November, year two thousand seventeen, voluntarily to give your testament to the new Judicial Authority of the World League, represented today by agent Radcliffe and me, Agent Sinban. All legal opportunities you're entitled to take before, after, and during this recording have been read to you as you were seated. Now, can you tell us what you were doing the night before the disappearances started?"

George let a long sigh. "The night before the disappearances. It was me, my girl at the time, and my three kids. Sarah, I think her name was, thought it a good idea to have a big dinner with them, since I'd be leaving for a few days to settle horses on a neighbor's ranch. That's what I did at the time: training the horses and stablehand about the proper keeping."

As one of the suits began to review a file, the other spoke. "Can you tell us about your kids?"

The man nodded, although with reluctance. "I had three: Michael, Chase, and Millah. Their mother had died of liver problems, but they were good and brave despite that." His hands were clasped as if sending a prayer. "Michael was the oldest being 13, a year apart from his younger brother, but Millah... she was barely in the 4th grade."

Agent Sinban, prompted, "apologies for the question, it's just a follow up for everyone testifying due to the high deaths in young age groups. "

George shook his head, "what's next?"

This time Agent Radcliffe answered, " Did you notice something different or anything that caught your eye that day?"

"The night was nice and quiet, the kids were dreading the first day of the school, Sarah actually cared about the kids so it felt right to leave them with her while I was gone. For us, the effects of the disappearances hit early since we lived rurally, near hunting spots so you'd see game going in and out of town."

George leaned back in his chair as he snorted, "Have you ever wondered how long it takes characters in a horror film to realize somethings wrong? Like 'what's their thought process' as the movie gets interesting, cause it took us a while as a society. I knew it then as a feeling, as if something was missing. Then they announced the strange news-it was confirmed that all the insects were missing. Scientists around the world were on the hunt, trying to figure out the reason for their disappearance."

An agent cleared his throat, stating: "What was your reaction?"

"When I heard, I wasn't sure if I should be excited or afraid. I mean,no need to worry for any more infestations, but I had remembered reading somewhere in an article that one of the scientists quoted: "If the bee disappeared from the surface of the earth, man would have no more than four years to live." In a few days, there were another, more alarming announcement-the reptiles had disappeared from the planet. All of them, every single one of them in one day. There was still no information from them so-called scientists. The fish was next, and that's when people started to panic."

George looked up to both agents while thumbing a bracelet of a thin embroidered material. "Millah was afraid of going back to school because she'd see kids hyperventilate or break down in the middle of her class. Some people believed the end of the world was coming. Others believed it was the work of aliens, waiting to terrorize us. There were some scientific theories, but no clear explanation of what was happening to the creatures. The disappearance of the birds was a step closer for everything to go into chaos. You'd hear the stories in the bar near town- of people panicked and running their mouths paranoid, afraid of the situation. We were losing our resources and it was clear we wouldn't survive long. Riots erupted, I think people from Argentina had staged a coup demanding answers, wanting to know what was happening to their planet.

"Maybe you two were too little at the time but a few days later, one of those big hot shot scientists announced that he believed this occurrence was a transportation of the Earth's population to another planet, somewhat like Noah's Ark. He didn't know who was transporting them or to where, but he believed it was for a good reason. He told us to not panic and wait patiently for our turn. This was just a simple theory like the others, but it was the most reasonable. Of course, many people didn't believe, like myself, and more riots continued to erupt around the world. When the mammals disappeared in another week, most people thought that we were next."

Both of the agents stared at George with anticipation, "but that wasn't true was it?"

The man scratched his beard and simply stated, "No, we just started to die."
