"DO YOU wish that things were different?"
"How do you mean?"
"What if we never chose the path we chose? What if we never succumbed to our addiction?"
"Then we would have never met," Miyu's voice was rigid. She sat cross-legged under the tree. The tree's branches sloped down, the leaves grazed the headstone. She picked the dirt out of her long nails and shrugged. Jungkook stood behind the grave, arms crossed and leaning over the headstone.
"Wouldn't that have been wonderful," Jungkook rolled his eyes, annoyed by Miyu's lacklustre response. Miyu laughed and pushed her strawberry hair back, the roots dark and outgrown. Jungkook narrowed his eyes at the elder, sceptical of her reaction. "What?" He pushed further. He corrected his stance, stood straight with his hands in his pockets; hostile.
He hated how the elder looked flawlessly attractive, the way her fulls cheeks lifted up to her eyes as she laughs and the way that it caused a familiar flutter in his stomach.
"Nothing, you're funny," Miyu smiled, one end of her lip curled up a little further, her voice dripped with amusement. Jungkook's eyes widened a fraction, amazed by the feathery touch of emotion on her face... it had been so long.
"I don't wish things to be different. Not anymore at least," Miyu said. There was a pause before she lifted her head and locked gazes with Jungkook. "The world has colour now, unlike before," Miyu continued. Jungkook's confusion only grew. He walked around the grave and took the vacant seat in front of Miyu.
"I don't understand whatever the hell you're trying to say," he mumbled and Miyu frowned. "Speak in a language I understand will ya?" he asked. Miyu clicked her tongue, dismissing his request.
"It's just better, life feels like life, you know?" she said leaning back and sucking in a breath, eyes strained on the darkening sky. Jungkook laughed.
"That's ironic coming from you."
"Yeah, keep laughing, you asshole. You'd never understand until you're in my shoes," Miyu sneered. Jungkook chuckled, a hollow one.
"Don't think it's going to take that long." The wind swept past them, cold and icy as it silently screamed of the lost and abandoned dreams of the ones six feet under. Jungkook's eyes grazed over the headstone, the name printed on the concrete making his heart twist. "It's going to rain again." The clouds were heavy and hanging low, ranging from colours grey to black. The blue sky peaked from between, morphing into a dark blue as the sun set.
The lily Jungkook had earlier placed on the grave sat untouched.
Miyu was still, face calm. Jungkook frowned as he watched the elder amble through without worries, he wished for it. His mind spun as an overconsuming yearning for it settled in the pit of his stomach. He yearned for a time where people would take him seriously, a time where he could finally say no more to his addictions and a time where he'd have a family againー a family once lost.
They both stared past the scenery, looking at the clouds welled with tears through the gaps of the half-dead trees. Jungkook wondered if the world was mimicking his emotions, the ones that he was holding in. The eeriness in the air came suddenly as the wind wailed. "Oh fuck," Jungkook muttered when his phone went off, notifying him. "I have to go," he mumbled. Miyu cocked her head to the side in question. "Support group," Jungkook shruged.
"You left the old one," Miyu stated and Jungkook bit the tip of his tongue as he stood up.
"Well, I wasn't very comfortable being in the same group as my ex," Jungkook tucked his phone back into the pocket of his jeans and dusted the dirt off.
Miyu stood up. "I'm coming with you, also thank you for this," she informed as she picked up the lily on the grave, she nestled it in her hands. "Why, was she that much of an ass?" Miyu asked, a cheeky smile on her face. Jungkook's face twisted up.
"I don't think you want me to elaborate on your shitty behaviour," Jungkook stated. Miyu faked an expression of hurt, holding her chest and shaking his head. Jungkook stared at her dramatics for a brief moment before turning around and walking. "Also, why exactly are you coming with me?"
"Hey, I wasn't that bad of a girlfriend now. And while we're on this subject, why did you break up with me?" Miyu jumped over the roots that were growing out of the ground as she tried to catch up with Jungkook. "I am coming with you because I have nothing better to do."
"You know exactly what was wrong. Sorry to break it to you but you're a shit girlfriend and you're just too much to handle," Jungkook shoved his fists into the pockets of his jacket and grumbled, rolling his eyes as he spoke. "Why don't you go get yourself a life?"
"Me? I am hard to manage? Have you seen yourself?" Miyu yelled exasperatedly. Jungkook stopped and threw Miyu a glare before continuing to walk. "But you're my life Jeonggukie," Miyu squealed, voice rising a few octaves as she skipped over to Jungkook's side and clung onto his arm.
Jeongguk choked. "What the fuck, ew, get off of me!" he shoved Miyu away with a push of his shoulder. The elder laughed and winked. Jeongguk continued to glare at her. He mimicked a gagging expression before pushing the cemetery gates open.
"Aw baby, are you just gonna leave like that now? After all our history?" Miyu asked, wriggling her eyebrows as Jungkook exited the cemetery. Jeongguk took a sweeping glance at the elder again, his face a mixture of both confusion and shock. Maybe it did change her, Jungkook thought.
"Who are you and what have you done with my amiyu?" the word accidentally sliped and Jungkook cursed under his breath when a smirk curled upon Miyu's lips. She was never going to let him live this down.
"Your Miyu?" she asked, a tone of mockery present. Jungkook shivered. He dismissed her with his hands and continued walking.
