I look at the text sent by the unknown number. The Dollars?! Who the heck are they?! Are they some kind of gang?! Why do they want me to join them?! I give my phone a puzzled look.
"Join us because the world isn't as bad as you think. ~The Dollars ---> Http://www.Dollars-BBS.org <--- Password is: •••••••"
That text message... What happens if I click on the link? Will I get into trouble with the police? My mom will kill me if I ever joined a gang!
No.. Wait. This all seems fake. Why would a gang called the "Dollars" recruit random people by text message? Why not meet me in person?
"Join us because the world isn't as bad as you think." What does this even mean? How do they know about my feelings towards the world?!
I tighten my grip on my phone. Without anymore hesitation, I click the link in blue and my phone opens up Google Chrome and I'm directed into this sinister looking webpage.
A black page with only a few things on it; The Dollars logo, the password box, and the gray "enter" button. The Dollars logo itself looked mysterious. 2 white circles, innermost circle being the thickest, and the word "DOLLARS" in colorful little circles consisting of light colors like light pink, light green, white, light yellow, and baby blue. I slowly type in the 7 letter password given to me in the text message and hit enter.
"That's it.." I said to myself. "I'm in the Dollars..."
The website had a dark colored theme. The colors only consisted of black, grey, and white. I gotta admit, it was kinda cool! I scroll down and I see all these posts by different people!
"Magnolia, BarabiSama, Setton, Kanra, Reltair, Yukiran.." All these strange usernames! I looked for a register/sign up button, but I couldn't find it. I stumbled across a thread that's titled, "READ THIS IF YOU'RE NEW" and clicked it.
After a few minutes of reading the post and the comments, I started understanding it all now. Well, I began to understand that there is no register button and the only way to "make your account" is to go by a screen name whenever you want to create a new thread or post a comment on an existing thread. I scrolled all the way up to the top and clicked on the "About" tab.
"Just who are the Dollars?
The Dollars website is an open topic BBS (Bulletin Board System) that does not require an account to post on. There is a wide range of topics to discuss, things to learn, and new people to meet everyday!
All types of people are welcome, as long as you respect others and post responsibly. Your age, ethnicity, personality, economic status, and abilities have absolutely no influence on your status as a Dollar. Please do note that because there are no heavy restraints on where or what you post, it is up to you to follow the rules and keep the BBS lawful and clean. For each board, there is a short description near the top of the page. Please check that your thread fits into the guidelines before posting it!
Although we are mainly a site used for discussion, this does not limit those who want to go out and make the world a better place. There is a board where fellow Dollars can congregate to post ideas for Missions or to report their progress on them. However, please do not attempt to force others to partake in Missions; that section of the site is strictly voluntary.
Before beginning to create new threads, please introduce yourself on the Introductions board, read this helpful thread, and observe how things function for a while.
We are the Dollars, and we welcome you in open arms!"
I see, now! The Dollars aren't bad! They simply just want to make the world a better place! This is awesome! I quickly open up the 'Missions' tab.
I lurk on the Missions tab and suddenly realize how great the Dollars are. What if my friends were also recruited into the Dollars.
I guess the world isn't as bad as you think, right?
