Students fill the classroom, chatter about who's dating who and how many people someone has slept with is brewing. Mr. Bodwin the teacher stands at the door handing kids slips of paper as they enter. The school bell rings. The teacher closes the door and makes his way to his desk.
"That was the bell, meaning class has started, meaning work has begun, meaning talking should be done, and you should be working on the bell ringer that I handed you as you entered the door", Mr. Bodwin says.
There's a sudden knock on the door. Mr. Bodwin motions for one of the students to open the door. A boy walks in, with his head facing the floor.
"Mr. Vera, if you can't come to class on time, why do you bother coming at all", Mr. Bodwin says.
"The names Jason and I'm here Because my education is important and whether or not I'm here on time doesn't matter, because class will continue and you will still be standing beside your desk, lecturing us on the immobility of a Penguins fins to fly, while half your class is ignoring you and you're relying on me to save your ass when the principal comes in here to see if anybody is learning anything that comes out of your mouth", Jason says.
A few students snicker.
"Speaking of ass, put yours in a seat", Mr. Bodwin says.
Jason begins walking to sit down.
"In the Principals Office", Mr. Bodwin says.
Jason's mouth opens, as he turns and walks out the door. He makes his way to the principal office. He walks in and sits down. The principal shakes her head and turns to him.
"Can't say I'm not surprised to see you, speaking that you've been late everyday since you started High School", the principal says.
"Yeah, I know, It's my parents, they're never around to actually drop me off, and actually this is for something different", Jason says.
"First off, your mom comes to the school everyday, wanna know how I know, Cause I'm ya mom", Ms. Vera says.
"Yeah, but you come at like 5, and I'm literally just shutting my eyes at 5", Jason says.
"Well what are you here for?", Ms. Vera asks looking through her emails.
"I may have said a disrespectful statement to Mr. Bodwin", Jason replies.
"By disrespectful you mean, calling him out in front of his students, disrespecting his teaching, and telling him and I quote, you have to "save his ass" when I enter the room", Ms. Vera says.
"How did you know that?", Jason asks.
"Because I'm reading your suspension slip", Ms. Vera says.
"Suspension!", Jason yells standing up and walking over to the computer, "I've never been suspended a day in my life".
"Well nobody told you to go all George Bush and give a whole presidential speech", Ms. Vera says.
"So you can make this go away right", Jason asks.
His mom looks at him softly.
"Well.....as much as I want to, I have to treat you like the rest of the students here, I can't give favors because you're my son", Ms. Vera replies.
"It's not a favor, it's an exchange", Jason says.
"And what am I exchanging?", Ms. Vera asks.
"I'll clean out the garage, cut the backyard, and wash you guy's car", Jason replies.
She crosses her arms.
"Stuff that you have to do anyway, and you can do it while you're suspended for 2 days", Ms. Vera replies.
