I dropped my bag on the floor of my old bedroom and sighed as I looked around. It was good to be home. I had just arrived at my mom's house in the English countryside an hour or two away from London. I always spent winters with my father and summers with my mother.

Since I hadn't taken much time to redecorate the odd room I loved so much, it still looked exactly the same as it had since I was little girl, minus all the tacky art and posters. Running my hands over the friendly gray walls, I walked over to my bed and sat down on the lilac purple blankets, observing the faded patches on the wood floor from years of sun shining on them. It was so good to be home.

"Y/n! Come help us finish unpacking!", my mother called from downstairs.

Right. I still had lots to do before I could settle in.

Taking once last glance around the octagon room, I looked through the bay window and saw the field behind our house covered in blooming flowers. I smiled, thinking about how I would later walk through it and breathe in their beautiful scents, the warm spring sun on my skin--

"Y/n! I'm not going to ask you again!"

I quickly hurried down the stairs and helped my sister carry in the rest of our belongings.

After I finally finished unpacking, I collapsed on my bed and promptly fell asleep, only to be woken up an hour later by car roaring down our typically deserted street. The engine wasn't too loud, I just wasn't used to it in the ordinarily quiet rural areas we lived in. I lay waiting for it to pass so I could drift off again but the the car seemed to stop moving right in front of our house. Annoyed, I rubbed my eyes and brushed my hair out of my face as I drowsily stumbled towards the window looking over our front yard. The car was parked in the driveway of the house directly next to mine, it was the only one for miles. Curious and bitter at having been woken up from my nap, I continued watching. Why would anyone come all the way out here? That house had been vacant for years. Were these new neighbors?

And then I saw him.
