CHAPTER VIII

THE PARTY FROM HELL

                     We walked through the suburban lights and through the evergreen foliage.I was in the middle of two red heads.Sandy's red hair was tied in a bun.She was excited to show it off to everyone she know.Everyone has probably touched her hair,she let them get a feel of her crowning glory and she liked it very much.Vina's red hair was a bit darker than Sandy's.She doesn't seem to give too much attention to it because its just perfect as it is,she was born with it.'Ok here's the plan,once were in the house,we divide and conquer' Sandy said raising her right hand.'Plan for?' asked Vina feeling a little lost.'My dear best friend Sandy just wanna have fun tonight,you know what I mean' I said giggling.As we reached Hana William's party-house,there were drunk college boys laughing hysterically on the lawn.Vina stepped on one of the boy's crotch.He screamed in pain and we quickly entered the house bursting into laughter.The living room was filled with people from our school and people I have never seen before.The place felt like there was a rock concert.The light went on and off and there were people screaming on the top of their lungs.

                      ' Sandy you're late! what took you so long!' shouted Hana from the top of the stairs where she was making out with a junior.Sandy flipped her hair and Hana was awed by her mane.'Oh you brought him..' said Hana trying to recall my name.'Lian..' I said immediately.I don't want to start the night with an awkward conversation with the host.'Hmm..you seem familiar though..have we met before?' inquired Hana.Sipping what's left on her red party cup.'Were classmates..in the same school' I said slowly.I tried to sound polite as I can.Hana's eyes then shifted to Vina.They stared at each other for a moment.Vina smiled and turned away,disappearing in the crowd.'Omg,did I just saw Mary Kelis?' asked Hana,rubbing her eyes to clear her vision.'No,you just had too much drink in your system..' said Sandy and walked away.I left the spot before Hana did.I went to the kitchen to get a drink or hoping to bump into someone I know.I turned my head to see if Hana moved a single bone.She didn't.She was still,probably deep in thought.

                        As expected I was all alone in a corner of the house.I am not really used to parties and social events where social interaction is a huge deal.I watched the boys and the girls get drunk and get wasted on the floor,but it seems like they're having the time of their lives.I am lying if I say I never wanted to be like them,to be socially accepted by everyone and to be recognized.One just need to break out of his shell and face the reality with great courage and have fun like there's no tomorrow.With that in mind,I got up and decided to join the dancing crowd.I threw my hands up in the air and let it all go.Just as I started dancing,someone grab me by the hand.I didn't know who it was until we went up the stairs.It was Nick.We broke into Hana's bedroom.Although nothing has been said,Nick was laughing.His eyes became teary and red.I was puzzled,so I gave him a confused look.'Don't ever dance again..' said Nick,catching his breath.I couldn't say anything,too embarrassed to face him.Nick wanted to say something,but he was giggling between his words.'I was just having fun..' I said in a straight voice.Nick's giggling stopped and he looked at me straight in the eyes.'Im sorry,I have no idea that it was a big thing for you..' Nick started giggling again,this time even louder.I couldn't do anything but to join him.His laugh was contagious.We both fell on the floor bursting into laughter,laughing into oblivion.

                  'I didn't expect you to be here tonight..' said Nick staring in the night sky.We were on the rooftop,missing out all the fun in the living room.The stars were like diamonds in the sky.The noise in the house became  an echo,a sound from a distant world that eventually morphed into a pleasant hymn.It felt like I was in a different world.In a world of my own.'Did you hear what I just said?' asked Nick,eating a box of Cheerios.I nod,I was too caught in the moment.The silence kept me in deep thought.I had my arms wrapped around my legs.'What's wrong?' inquired Nick,looking a little scared.I sighed in the nothingness of the night.Nick patted my shoulder as if I was crying.Then I realized that I was crying.I let it all out.I dropped the weight I have spent most of my time carrying.It felt good.A heavy heart,now a weightless cloud.Before I knew it I was laughing and smiling again.Nick shook his head and sighed.'Im such a crazy person..' I said looking down.'Well? it's a crazy world,so its ok..' replied Nick .A speck of dust went into my eye.I rubbed my closed lids ferociously.I couldn't get it out of my eye.As I rubbed my eyes,I was about to fall from the roof.Nick kept me still.His breath blow into my eyes.The pain disappeared and the noise became softer as it was before,then eventually fade into darkness.

                    I decided to come down from the rooftop to look for Vina or Sandy.The living room was trashed.Spills and cups were all over the place.The front window was busted.Someone have thrown the sofa outside the house.The visitors were still high as the time we first came into the house.Unfamiliar faces making eerie facial expressions.I found Vina.She was talking to a stocky guy wearing Southport high jacket.I realized it was him.Josh davis.I approached Vina and asked her if she know where Sandy was.She didn't say anything but gave me a smile.She was drunk.I don't know how Vina can keep up a decent conversation with Josh when she doesn't even make any sense.

'I saw a huge bunny! it jumped through that window!' Vina said pointing at the busted window.

'Its not a bunny,its a sofa..' said Josh giggling.

'I know what I saw and I need a refill..' Vina said smiling the air.

'Honey,you're wasted.go home..' interrupted Leona raising her eyebrows.We turned our heads to her.I was surprised that Leona interrupted our conversation.She usually don't barge into conversations if it doesn't really concerned her.Maybe this had.

'I am having fun..' Vina said biting her lips.

'Sure you do..you look wasted..' said Leona covering her mouth.

                 Josh and I were looking at each other.Both silent.Witnessing the 'World War III'.'Not as wasted as you are..' replied Vina.Leona's face became more serious.'You don't know me..you rat' said Leona.'You don't know me either..' Vina responded with a smile.'Oh I  know a lot about you and you're cousin..' replied Leona.'Don't you dare talk about her..' said Vina looking a little dizzy.Vina covered her mouth and walked away.Leona followed her and pulled Vina's arm.'Nobody..I said nobody cut me off just like that..' said Leona.Just as she finished her sentence,Vina puked on her pink top.
