Safe
She was never safe. No matter what anyone told her. She was never truly safe. But that's what being a demigod is. It comes with risks and when there's risks you have to learn to be a bit risky. Not that it mattered to Annabeth anymore. She's died and lived and almost died more times then she can count.
And she loves it
She really does. She's seen the underworld, she knows what happens after death. So being careful and trying to stay alive doesn't affect her anymore. After all, what's the point of living if she's already dead. It's not like anyone cares about her or what she does. Those people are long gone.
But what if they aren't
That's impossible. They died. All of them. It broke her heart but that was the sad truth. These people trying to help her, they weren't them. They couldn't be them. Sure, they looked like them and talked like them but no. It's impossible. It's just a dream, a crazy dream. She'll wake up back in the underworld and continue to throw a pity party for herself.
But what if its real?
No. That would never happen. She's already lived three times and the rules state you can't live longer then that. Besides, why her? They could have brought back heroes and fighters but instead they chose her. Why?
Maybe they see who she was before?
Unfortunately, that can't happen. Even Annabeth doesn't know who she was before so how can they? She remembers fighting monsters but she knows she could never do that again. She remembers being this strong person who never lets her emotions get the best of her but she KNOWS she can never, ever be that again.
Why?
Because she let herself get overwhelmed by her pain until it became her. She doesn't know who she is without it. She knows its unhealthy but that doesn't stop her. She holds on to this pain like its her life because in a way, it is. She doesn't feel without it. She doesn't know she's safe.

I groan and sit up. My eyes adjust and I realize I'm sitting on the floor in a dark room. What? I get up and flick on the light switch. It doesn't do much and the room only gets a little brighter. I turn the knob on the door but it doesn't move. I try it again but it stays the same. I sigh and sit back on the floor. This room has nothing in it. Boring.
"Who put me here?" I ask the air tiredly. Nothing responds, as excepted. I stare up at the ceiling and suddenly a crash sounds from outside the door. I sit up again and look at the door, confused. Something knocks on the door and it swings open. I gasp and scramble up.
"Hello? Who's there?" I call into the darkness beyond the door. Again, nothing answers. I take a step out, then another. Before I know it, I'm at the end of the hallway. A door stands in front of me. I put my ear up to it and try to listen to what's going on inside.
"She has to know!"
"we can't risk that""What else are we going to do, Percy? The prophecy states that she's the key"
"I agree with Leo, we can't keep her in the dark forever"
"it won't be forever! Just until she adjusts to the world and the war"
"I hate to say it, but Percy's right. She isn't ready to be a demigod again. You saw how broken she looked"
"Thank you Piper! At least someone agrees with me"
