22. The Innocence

Violet kept her head down as she entered the dungeons. It was dingy which meant she could slip down unnoticed. She tried to retrace the route in her head as she remembered certain wall hangings and flaws in the stones. Making her way down a final corridor she arrived at her destination.

She stood before the deep green serpent tapestry with silver threading. Although, she realised there was no way for her to enter without the password. Violet stood awkwardly before the door contemplating her choices when a group of Slytherin's started to walk towards the common room. Quickly she slipped into the alcove and peered around the corner as they approached the door; it was Pansy, Blaise and Theo. No Malfoy.

As they approached the door Violet strained her ears to try and catch the password but to no avail. She stayed in the alcove a little longer as a few more Slytherin's returned from dinner but never quite caught the password. It must have been around an hour before the desired blonde finally walked down the corridor. She stepped out of the alcove and intercepted his route. His eyes widened slightly before returning to neutral.

"Back so soon?" he smirked.

"Can we go to your dorm?" she ignored his flirty comment with a straight face and uncomfortable side glances.

"Why what's-"

"I didn't know where else to go"

He scanned her for a moment, a flash of worry crossed behind his eyes.

"Put this on" he removed his Slytherin robe and placed it on her. He put up the hood and then pulled it slightly over her eyes. "Keep your head down"

Malfoy slung his arm over her shoulder and they stepped towards the door. Caput Draconis. She never would've been able to guess the password. He ushered her into the common room and she leaned slightly into his body as they entered.

This was quite literally a snake pit. Harry and Ron had told her about it in second year but she'd never seen the inside for herself. She only caught glimpses of the floor as she entered, determined not to lift her head and expose herself. Malfoy leant down towards her ear.

"Go up to the top of the stairs, I'll meet you in the corridor"

There was no time for her to protest before he removed his grip and nudged her away. She did as she said and made her way to the top of the stairs. It was similar to the dungeons with cold, mossy brick and narrow stairs. Her heart pounded inside her chest at the thought of being caught and pressed herself into the wall as she tried to hide in the shadows.

She could hear Malfoy talking downstairs and halted on the stairs to hear him.

"Care to introduce us to your friend" She recognised the voice as Theodore Nott.

"No one worth introductions"

Theo chuckled "Malfoy, you sly fox. Gowan tell us who it is"

"No. Now if you don't mind..."

He caught up with her on the stairs and led her to the corridor. Violet was unsure how many doors they'd passed before they reached Malfoy's. They stepped inside and Violet removed the robe as Malfoy locked the door.

His room was vast. The far wall had two large windows which looked into the Black Lake; dark aqua light shone through the glass and Violet could've sworn she saw merpeople. There were two beds down the right hand wall, which were adorned with green and silver pillows, throws and duvets. There was a dark wood dresser pushed up against the left hand wall and a desk in front of one of the windows. Beside the dresser was a door which she assumed led to a bathroom. The floor to ceiling curtains were only half drawn and they appeared to be green silk.
