Chapter 1

Of course, it was not any normal day. The entire village seemed frightened of something. I could sense it. They were very skittish when I went to get food and looked at me with sorrow and worry. The more I was there it seemed as if they wanted to tell me something, or anything at least, but could not. At dusk, the fear in the air died down. It was me and my thoughts. A cool spring breeze chilled me to my bone but I kept watch over the town. I heard noises coming from the old cave. They sounded unhuman, as if a million souls were crying out in pain. Something was odd. Then I saw it, or more likely, them. 2 people, walking into the old mine, pickaxes, and wooden swords in hand. I knew this would not end well. I stayed close, but out of sight.

I overheard them talking about the plentiful resource of iron and diamonds they would find. They would only find death. Death is an old brother of mine. I knew him as a friend. I knew he would hunger for power and needed resources. Them going into the mine was a mistake. The zombies came first, their shambling bodies smelling of rotten meat that withers anyone in sight. They seemed to do well until the man dropped dead in front of me, an arrow through his heart with his eyes cold and dead. The skeletons moved in now. The girl was scared as most are, but this time something about her just puzzled me, her red hair, mismatching green and blue eyes, and her pale white skin. It was like a piece of me was missing, but was now found. I knew the time was now and I jumped out startling them all. My blade, still reeking of blood, was drawn.

The zombies did not stand a chance. Taking the girl by the hand, and the man by the arm I dragged them out of the cave, dazed, covered in blood, and concerned. I checked the man with the arrow still in his chest. He was dead. I looked over at the girl and shook my head. She sobbed and I came over sympathy and held her until she fell asleep.

She finally woke at my house. I was watching the house and over her the entire night. I don't know why but I don't sleep. I must be cursed. I knew death would be unhappy with me and send more problems to deal with me. Of course, I had to watch over the house. I went over to the kitchen to get a bit to eat for both of us. I needed more resources and knew I had to head into the village for some food later, but I had some introduction to do. I walked in and handed her some food. We both ate in silence for a while, not really doing or saying much. I walked up to the bathroom and looked in the mirror. Blue eyes stared back at me. It was at this time that I thought of an idea. Something I have not thought about in a long time. I think it's time to rest.

I walked out and she seemed better. "What is your name?" I asked. My name is May."Well, my name is Sam, and what you did was dangerous. Do you have a family or a home you can go to?" "No, I have been on my own for the longest time." Ok, May, let's go for a walk. We walked to the local bread shop, which was not that far, and Luna greeted us at the door. "Hey, Sam!" "Would you like our special rolls or the usual?" "I'll have the usual and add 2 rolls," I said. "You got it!" We sat down as bread was delivered but the entire time, I was thinking about something, a chance maybe, but things like her do not come often. I had to take a risk. She could be the key to my life.

Chapter 3

As much as I wanted this conversation to prolong, it was getting dark. I thanked Luna for her service and we walked out together back to my house. But I ran into trouble. It was Mayor Ethan of the village. Or more like, Supreme Dictator Ethan. He ran into us, and of course, wanted me out. He has disliked me ever since I stepped foot into this place. He controls everything, so there was not much I could do. He sent us to my house where I had to watch over the place with another sleepless night. I told May to get some sleep. When she was asleep I started my night watch. Mobs. Lots of them were gathering in a crowd in what seems like a cave. They were gathering blocks of what looked like dark rock. A silent figure moved through the crowd ordering them to take them somewhere. That was very suspicious but I kept my watch. Something was odd that night. I was more tired than usual. I was growing anxious, and was very sleepy. I do not know why this is happening. It seems the mob attacks have me on edge.
