A/N: This chapter mentions fainting, blood, and diabetes. I personally have not experienced these things so I'm sorry if it does not seem accurate. I did a bit of research as I was writing to get some background knowledge, but it still may not be accurate as I have never experienced this myself.
Happy Reading- Kate :)

Lainey's POV:

The first half of the school day drags on and it feels like it's going so slow. It's finally time for Lunch and Charlotte and I go through the line together.

"I'll go find us a spot to sit." I say

Charlotte nods.

Once I find an empty table and sit down, I check my phone to see if dad or anyone has left me a message.

One Text From: Dad
Hey baby girl we just got to Massachusetts. On our way to the venue and hotel. Hope you're having a good day at school. love you :)

Just as I was about to text him back, I feel someone looking over my shoulder. I turn around quickly to see Amelia being nosy and looking at my text message.

"Aw Your Daddy's in another state. oh how sad..." she says in a mean tone and makes a stupid pouty face.

I make an annoyed grimace at her and turn around.

"oh how funny, Little Delainey Duncan here thinks she can be the "bigger person" Amelia says making a quotation mark with her fingers.

she laughs at me.

I stand up to face her.

"You know what Amelia! I have had enough! My last name is not Duncan and I CAN be the bigger person!" I yelp out at her.

"Oh yeah? and how are you going to do that? You're just a scrawny little orphan and the only thing you have going for you is that "dad" of "yours" she says, using quotation mark fingers again.

"You don't know me!" I say and I just walk away. I try my best to hold back tears as I throw away my lunch tray and start to head outside.

As i walk out, I hear a lot of commotion and people are rushing over to the salad bar. I don't know why though, but I just ignore it and head outside for a moment.

I know it's not time for recess break yet, but I need a minute.

I go over to a wooden bench under a small tree in the outdoor commons area and I just sit. I breathe, and i write. I first write a quick text to dad that I miss him. Then I start to write in my little journal. Just about how I'm feeling.

I write a little poem.

I knew this day would come
when you would leave me
but now here I am sitting alone under this tree
i thought i'd get a head start
but everyone keeps saying things that
i take to heart
it hurts being without you
i hate being alone
all i want is for you to be home

I was broken out of my thoughts when i see the door being swung open and and my name being called

"Lainey, There you are, I need you to come with me"

i look up to see a short plump blonde woman who looks to be in her late forties calling me.

I stand up and grab my bag. I put my notebook and pen inside and follow the lady into the school.

"What's going on?" i ask her

We talk as we walk down the hallway.
