One night a girl was walking home from a late swim practice. She was supposed to walk home with some of her friends but they weren't going to leave 20 minutes after the practice was over but she needed to be home by 10.
The street lights had just come on whenever she left. She got lucky because they weren't supposed to turn on until 9 and it was 8:30. She hated having to walk home alone. Especially when the photography club had a meeting.
You might be wondering what's so wrong with having practice the same time a club mainly filled with girls but the only boy in the class was the one she always worried about. He was creepy most of the time but when he was around her it was ten times worse.
During school he would purposely be late to his classes to walk the same route as her. At lunch he would sit at the table as close as he could get to her even if his friends weren't sitting there. He was always paired with her in any class that requires a partner.
At one point when she had a boyfriend she caught them fighting, she still doesn't know what it was about because it would always make him change his mood when she would bring up while they were hanging out. Did she still ask everyday even though they aren't together anymore because it would taunt her at night and not let her sleep. She would always get the same answer no matter what his mood was or how many times she asked. It was like his response was practiced everyday so that he wouldn't let anything slip.
She started to get close to the park that was next to her house when her conscience was telling her to speed up. She didn't understand why until she got right under the street lights bulb and saw someone else's shadow getting closer. She put in her earbuds and began to sprint towards her front door which she assumed was unlocked but when she arrived to her surprise it wasn't and her parents weren't home and wouldn't be there until way past her curfew maybe around 12.
She started to make her way to the back door when she realized that she hadn't made it in time. She could see the figure making their way up the hill coming straight toward her. She turned the key without a struggle unlike usual and walked into the house slamming the door behind her. There were so many thoughts running through her mind that it made her dizzy. She quickly but calmly went up to her room.
Maybe they were looking for my parents or something. But if that was true why were they coming straight toward me. Everytime I took a step the figure took two more to stay in contact with me.
Any other time she would be happy to be home alone but now she really wanted to see her parents sitting at the dinner table waiting for her arrival. Once she made it to her room she locked her door and closed the blinds. Her parents had always said that her room was the safest place for whenever she was followed or someone had broken into her house. There was a secret small room that could fit her and maybe a small dog.
Suddenly the entire world went quiet. Darn it! My cochlear just died. She rushed to find her fast charging charger so that she would be able to hear if someone broke in or if her parents came home.
The girl lost my hearing when I was about 10. She was on a school field trip to the aquarium when an older man made me fall into the penguin exhibit causing me to hit her head on one of the rocks. However she didn't pass out but she became very dizzy and everyone's mouths were moving but nothing was coming out. She was soon rushed to the hospital and she hasn't been able to hear ever since.
She checked her watch and it read 2:55. How did the time go by so fast she thought. It felt like it was just 10. Her parents weren't home yet which caused her to worry even more. She walked over to her desk to check the percentage on her cochlear. Thankfully it was fully charged. She put it in and not even a second later she heard banging on a window downstairs.
She cautiously walked down the stairs trying not to be seen or heard. She slowly peaked around the corner but saw that there was nobody at either of the windows or doors. She decided to head to the kitchen to get a glass of water to try and calm herself down. As she was leaving the kitchen the old antique clock began to chime. She looked at the clock and read 3.
She quickly ran up the stairs but before she could make it to the first step the phone rang. She was hesitant to answer so she let it ring until it cut off. As she continued to make it up the stairs it rang again but instead of the downstairs phone ringing it was her personal phone. She reached into her back pocket and slowly raised her phone. No Caller ID. She answered and stayed quiet just in case it was a spam call.
"Hello. Don't be shy, you can talk. I won't do anything to you."
"Fine, don't speak! I'm coming over by the way and if you don't have dinner ready for me I will do something to you."
She quickly hung up the phone and proceeded to run up to her room. She locked her door back and sat in the secret room. It began to rain. She watched the rain drops race down the window to try and calm herself again. Her phone rang again but this time it was a saved number so she decided to answer.
"Sweetie? Are you okay? You seem flustered."
"Mom what do you mean you're not even home right now."
"I'm sitting in the living room with your father. We have been watching you run up and down the stairs all night. You won't speak or tell us what's going on."
"You're lying!"
She hung up the phone and threw her phone at the wall. How could she just lie to me like that!?
There was a faint knock at her door. She yelled for the person to go away but the knocking continued without a break or change in force. She picked up her phone and put in her earbuds to listen to music to try and go to sleep.
She woke up in the morning hoping to go downstairs and see her mother and father waiting for her at the table with fresh breakfast ready for her. But when she woke up she wasn't in her room. The room was white and filled with one bed, a plain desk, and two doors. One for the bathroom and the other leading out into a hallway. She could see nurses walking around and one was heading right to her room.
"Good morning dear. I know this is a big change but I'm sure you will get used to it. It's not that hard to get the hang of this drastic change in your life."
The nurse did a few tests and went out of the room. She almost left the door unlocked but then quickly rushed back to the door making sure to keep the door locked.
I guess my parents were actually home and now I'm stuck in this weird hospital as a test guinea pig.
