The Return

I am in the van with my mom driving and my older sister in the passenger seat. I am in the middle part of the van with my nephew in the seat across from me asleep. My two younger sisters and my niece sit in the third row also asleep.

We are on a road trip together going somewhere, anywhere, and rented a minivan for the trip.

We have to move again because of me. What did I do this time? What did I not do? This is why we were told to bring all of our belongings we did not want to leave behind. It is quiet for a while as we drive not even music plays on the radio at the moment. My mom suddenly mentions:

"I forgot to do something... return some DVDs we had watched before the trip began and I need to return them before being charged again."

I thought she meant Redbox movies so we would stop by a random Walmart, Walgreens, or Kroger, but instead, we ended up at a shady- looking shop in the middle of nowhere and she parks in front. The place looks run down and empty. A sign is dimly lit that says Books & Movies. The parking lot is empty except for our car.

My mom tells me to get out the car and return a stack of dvds she hands to me. I am hesitant but do it slowly getting out the car nervous and afraid to go into this place alone. I look at the place again before getting out the car noticing I am not even seeing any lights on as I try to look through the large open glass windows of the place, the door as made of glass as well. I am about to object looking towards her but then my older sister gets out the car to follow after me. She must have noticed my hesitation as she say:

"I  will go with you, I need to use the restroom."

We walk up to the door and I open it  nticing right away as i look inside there is a dimly lit hall with an aura of blue small round led lighting that lines the whole hallway ceiling a man is seen walking our way down the hall. I am frozen for a moment but then force myself to walk in as my sister nudges me forward. The man doesn't notice us as we walk in walking behind a long checkout counter to our left that has a register and stacks of papers, books , and DVDs. Filing cabinets are behind the counter lined against the wall. The counter makes an L shape as the other part is against the front windowing with more stacks of books, papers, and DVD's lining. Next to the opening of the counter is stacks of boxes on the floor and more filing cabinets and some shelves of books and movies against the wall next to the hallway. The area where the shelves and cabinets is open but filled with more boxes of things.

I look to the right for a moment seeing another part of the place down a shorter hallway that opens out when you first go on but as you go further back there are shelves and shelves of books and, movies both VHS and DVDs. I also notice the lighting in this place. The whole place is dimly lit and that side is almost pitch dark with some slight lighting coming from the back making the place look almost eerie. I turn back to the man at the counter now seeing the man shuffling through some boxes on the floor with his back turned to us. I walk up to the counter waiting for a moment to see if the man notices as i do i see a sign showing store hours seeing they close in 20 minutes. After a moment of not realizing he does not notice my sister clears her throat impatiently and I look back at her as she beckons me to say something and I say:

"Hey sir I am sorry to bother you so close to closing but.... "

I am cut off. He turns around looking surprised but excited.

"Yes of course how can I help you?!

My sister cuts in saying:

"Where is your restroom?"

"Right down the end of the hall and to your left." He says as he motions his hand pointing toward the hall he just came from. She walks quickly down the hallway disappearing as she makes the left. I look back at him as she stares her way and I clear my throat giving attention to the movies in my hand. That is weird why is he watching her like that? He looks backs at me giving me back his attention like he just came out of a trance.
