- Mr. Kim is in a meeting, you can wait for him in his office.
The young woman at the reception desk pointed in the direction the young man headed. He was a friend of the main engineer deputy, and often came to his friend's work when he was bored or had time between training and study. In the building, almost every employee knew him, as he appeared here quite often.
When he reached the right office, he sighed as he looked around. As he had already been told, his friend was in a meeting, so he would have to wait. He sat down in the big chair and looked around the table. Memories of how his friend, as an engineer, had shown him his new inventions appeared in his mind. He remembered every machine he had created in this room, so he was no longer interested in looking at every device.
Except for a small black button located in a slightly open drawer.
The guy thought a little, but curiosity got the better of him and he pressed the button. There was a sound of gears, which made him flinch, and a sliding shelf made him shrink back into the chair. The last time he was here, it clearly wasn't here. The light blue glow slightly blinded his eyes, but he clearly saw a huge transparent cylinder-shaped structure that was hidden behind a shelf, and in this thing...
There's a human in there?
After a moment of hesitation, he slowly got up from the black chair and just as slowly began to approach the transparent cylinder. As he got closer, he saw the man standing still, not moving, not even breathing. When he saw the small handle, he pulled it, and the glass door opened. Now he could see that this man had metallic skin color, no hair, no eyebrows, no eyelashes, and all the other things that humans had.- What are you...
The human's eyes opened, causing him to flinch and back away slightly. After a minute of looking into each other's eyes, he realized that the creature wasn't even blinking.
It's a robot.
Taking a cautious step forward, he stared into the brown eyes opposite him and tilted his head slightly to the side, studying the robot. The robot turned its head sideways, perfectly mirroring the guy's movements. They returned their heads to normal position almost simultaneously. The guy slowly, hesitantly raised his hand, wanting to touch the robot. The robot mirrored the movements again, raising its arm and extending it forward slowly, just as the guy across from it does. When their palms touched, the guy's eyebrows went up in surprise. The robot tilted its head, looking at the touching palms, as if assessing the situation. When the brown mechanical eyes looked back at the man, he smiled slightly, seeing that the machine was not a threat, but simply copied his movements, like a child learning to gesticulate. The sound of ventilation and metal grinding started to come from the robot right after the guy smiled at him, which made him slightly scared. What if he broke it?- Jimin!
The guy flinched at the sound of his name and reflexively let go of the machine's hand, the robot lowered its arm as well.
- What are you doing here?
He felt his hand being grabbed, and turned around. His friend was standing in front of him, the owner of the office, and apparently owner of this robot.
- N-namjoonie, I didn't mean to, I j-just accidentally pressed the button in the drawer and-
- So, is this the robot you created? - another voice interrupted Jimin. A tall man walked from the door to Namjoon, looking at the robot. - It doesn't look ready yet.
- It's not ready, sir. But I'm working on it, and I promise you that I'll finish soon.
- Better do. Now, who are you? - the guy looked at Jimin, who was the shortest of them, and now was sulking cause of fear. Even the robot was taller than him. - You know that this project is confidential and citizens aren't allowed to see our machines yet, do you? - the man glanced at Namjoon.
- Of course. And he's not a citizen, - the tallest of them all said, making Jimin raise an eyebrow in confusion. - As you can see, he was interacting with my machine, so he'll be the one who's gonna teach it.
- Teach it? - the other guy looked as confused as Jimin is.
- We have to make them look and act like humans, so I thought that if a human teach him, he'd copy the way Jimin speak and move which will help him look more like a human. Also, Jimin is one of the best students in dance school.
The guy went silent, looking at Jimin and the robot, who was looking at them emotionlessly.
- Fine, - after a while he said. - But he's your responsibility.
- Of course.
- Good, - the guy nodded, walking to the door and opening it. - And, Namjoon?
- Yes?
- Boss won't forgive another mistake.
- Yes, Jin-hyung.
The door closed, causing the tall guy sigh and rub his eyes, closing the transparent door, which caused the robot to close its eyes.
- Take a sit.
Jimin silently sat down in the chair, still confused. Namjoon pushed the button, and the shelf moved back, hiding the transparent cylinder.
- So, looks like you're a part of the team now, - he said, chuckling.
- Do you mind explaining me what did you mean by saying I'm gonna teach him?
- Celebrities can't cope with the stress, - the guy sat down on the edge of the desk gently. - So the government has given our company an order to create machines and make idols out of them. We called it project "idol". This project is confidential, no one except the company's employees can see the machines, so you could be sued. But now they won't sue you, since you'll be training my new robot. - he continued, seeing Jimin lowered his head down. - Not like you have a choice.
- So main engineer gave you an order to create robot, and I'm gonna teach it to be human, - the younger paused. - He also said something about other mistake? - he looked up at his friend.
- Remember the guy I've told you about? The one which older than you, but almost as short as you?
- The one with white hair? Yes, you said he's doing paper work, why? - Namjoon smirked a bit. - Wait... Is he a robot?
- They want a tall, strong, good looking man. And I created a short, not really strong, but, gotta admit, good looking machine. He has mistakes in the system, he can't sing because I messed up his voice system, he couldn't learn dance moves fast because I messed his memory system. In short, that's who Jin-hyung was talking about.
- I've got a hard work then, I guess, - Jimin chuckled.
- This model is new and more modern. There won't be much system errors.
- I hope so.
- Also, I guess you understand that you can't tell anyone about it.
- Yes, yes of course. After all, I'd rather train some metal human than be sued... - he sighed.
- Good. You can come next week after your dance practice, I'll finish V-95 by Sunday.
- V-95?
- It's what its model called. Now, go, and please don't tell anyone.
- Yeah, yeah, I got it...
