It was a normal day. I got up early and my mom drove me to school. I kissed her and said goodbye like I did every morning.
It was just another hot and sunny day in Atlanta. Tyra, Jacob and I walked to class together. Jacob and I have been dating for about 5 months now. Tyra started a conversation about how much homework we were going to have. Everybody knew it, it was the week before finals.
We arrived at history class. I couldn't focus. My palms were sweaty and my heart was racing. I knew it was just stress. I haven't even started studying for finals yet. The teacher continued to drone on about the civil war.
BOOM. Instantly I knew it was a gunshot. My dad always took me to the shooting range, so the sound was familiar. Everyone panicked. The teacher yelled and said to hide. BOOM. I counted about 13 gunshots.
We were all hiding under the desks. I closed my eyes and prayed. "Dear God, please save us." I whispered in a shaky voice. When I looked up, my eyes found Jacob. His eyes signaled that it was okay. His beautiful crystal blue eyes comforted me. I forced back tears, I was not about to give in. I wasn't about to look like a scared little girl. I am tough. Whatever this is, it will be over soon.
And that's when I heard it. Moans coming from the hallways. I heard screams and a few more gunshots. "Lets go!" screamed the army man who bursted into our classroom.
Jacob found me and we held hands, running through the hallways. None of us knew what was happening. Then I saw what we were running from. It was group of men and women. Their teeth were dirty and decayed. Their skin was rotted. The worst part was their yellow colored eyes.
I quickly realized they were NOT people. They were something else. I looked up at the TV the new principle had recently put in the hallway. It was used to watch the morning news before classes began.
They automatically turned the news on. "The CDC has confirmed there has been an outbreak. This disease is in us all. When you die, you come back to life. Anything you were is gone. All you want to do is eat humans. If you have been bit, we advise you to end it now, you cannot be helped." said the news reporter. My eyes began to tear up. I was afraid, we all were. The army people were leading us out of the school. "WALKER!" yelled some army man as he shot it's brain. Walker? I guess that's what they are calling these... things.
I heard so many gunshots, there were walkers all around. Suddenly, I felt a sharp pain, just above my knee. I fell to the ground and winced in pain. In all of the chaos, someone had mistaken me for a walker.
As I crawled to the side of the hallway, I could almost feel the bullet inside of me. Soon, I realized I had lost Jacob. I looked back and saw him. My heart sank. I watched my love being torn apart. I saw red... so much red. I saw these things eating my Jacob. I bursted out in tears.
I just couldn't help it, Jacob is gone. Anything he was... he beautiful eyes, funny and sweet personality... its all gone. A that got me thinking. Mom, Dad, my sister Katie, everyone... they are at home.
I looked back up at the TV. It was showing a family getting eaten alive. That's... that's my family. That was a wonderful women who I loved with my whole heart and cared for me. An annoying yet fun and lovable sister. And my dad... my crazy, smart, tough, yet kind father... gone. "Oh no" I cried in a frightened and weak voice. My family, Jacob... gone. And there is nothing I could do.
I got up and realized that everyone was gone. It was just me and about a dozen walkers. I ran into the classroom and locked the door.
"Oh my God." I whispered. I was terrified. There were walkers banging on the walls trying to get in. They were hungry. I was their prey. For the first time, I felt this feeling. The feeling that nobody wants to feel. It was that I knew in that moment, that was the day I would die.
I had just figured out what these things were and now I knew that I would be killed by them. But I had to try to survive. I looked around, seeing if there were any weapons I could use. I found a gun on the floor. A rifle, one of the army men must have dropped.
I was so lucky.Without it I would have been dead in minutes. The gun was fully loaded so I opened the door. They all came at me. I fired the gun and hit each in the chest. Nothing happened! They were quickly getting closer, and that is when I realized they must be shot in the brain.
When I shot each of them, it was finally quiet. No gunshots, no moans, no screams. The school was empty. I was alone, and so I sat down. I haven't gotten the chance to process what is happening.
The world is ending... and I am alone. I thought of all the people I lost today Tears came running down my face. I just cried for a little while, I had nothing else to do.
But, this was all a few weeks ago, when it had first started. My leg wasn't healing well and I would run out of supplies to keep an infection from spreading very quickly. I still haven't taken the bullet out, its too deep... and I don't know what I'm doing.
A walker gets into the school every now and then, but the bag an army man dropped has guns which are all fully loaded, so I feel pretty secure.
But I was weak. I haven't eaten anything in over 4 weeks, all I had was leftovers from the lunches of students who got out.
I am running very low on water... it's just a matter of time before I die of thirst or blood poisoning from my gunshot.
I decided I wanted to read a book, if I had known the world was ending, I would have brought something more fun to do. The apocolypse is like an on going power outage. You'd think I'd be pretty occupied surviving... but I get pretty bored inside the school.
So, I went to the library. I stood up, very slowly. I was dizzy. My stomach growled, I was starving and thirsty.
I felt that sharp pain in my leg. I fell back down to the ground. I took a minute until I gained my strength back to try again.
I got up and started to limp over to the library. I heard something, it was probably a walker. I grabbed my handgun from my back pocket. The door opened... But this was no walker.
